Hip Hop Star Dolla Murdered in Los Angeles, Suspect Arrested
Roderick Anthony Burton II, aka Dolla, was shot and killed outside a Los Angeles shopping center only hours after arriving in town to record his first rap album.
The promising life and career of a young hip hop artist was ended yesterday after he was shot in the head in broad daylight outside a popular Los Angeles tourist destination. Dolla had just arrived on a flight from Atlanta to record an album on Akon's Konvict Muzik label and the buzz on the street was that Dolla was going to be a big hit on the hip hop scene. But something happened during the flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles that would result in his death. He apparently had gotten into some kind of altercation with another passenger on the flight. That passenger is now being held as the prime suspect in Dolla's murder. The passenger was Aubrey Louis Berry, 23, of the Atlanta area.
Dolla was also 23 and was originally born in Chicago, although he has been based recently in Atlanta. Dolla was shot in the head as he waited outside of the Beverly Center in Los Angeles on Monday. His publicist confirmed that he was the victim of the shooting and that the suspect had waited for him at the mall because he knew that was where he was headed.
Los Angeles police arrested the suspect after he had apparently returned to the airport and was attempting to purchase a ticket on an outgoing flight. Police found the man matching the description of the shooter and quickly determined that the man was armed. Berry is being held on 1 million dollars bail and there is no word at this time if he had any accomplices.
