Himalayan Cats
Cats have always captured my attention ever since I can remember. Cats are one of the most gorgeous and loving pets one can have and I am sure almost all cat lovers would agree with me on this point. Nothing can beat the feeling of a cuddly cat curled up next to you in bed! I cannot explain how comforting it is to have these furballs around you and having them sitting in your lap, purring away to glory! This is one of the most amazing feelings ever possible. Those innocent eyes completely melt me when they look at me with the hope of getting a second helping for breakfast. To me, cats are therefore the most adorable creatures to have around at home, no matter what breed they may belong to. There are of course a certain segment of people who have a specific inclination towards certain breeds of cats. One such breed I had a personal encounter was with the Himalayan cat. This cat is as adorable as any other cat. This breed came into being when the Persian breed and the Siamese cats were bred around the 1980s. If you have a strong liking and fascination for cats, read on to know some characteristics and behavior patterns of the Himalayan cats.

What are Himalayan Cats?
Cute, cuddly and adorable, that is what they are to me! The Himalayan cats are also known as the colorpoint Persian cats. Himalayan cats have been bred from the Siamese cats and Persian cats. This is why they have characteristics of both the cats. The body of the cat is similar to the Persian cats, which is a medium to a large size with a very cute face. Breeding has been done with the Siamese cats so that the Himalayan cats have similar ear colorings as a Siamese cat. (This would mean the color point markings on the ears.) The body structure is similar to a Persian cat.

Description and Characteristics of the Himalayan Cats:
Himalayan cats have a massive head with a short neck. Their short stubby legs and the large round, really lovable eyes are quite similar to that of a Persian cat. Himalayan cats generally have a white or a cream body. Their color markings, that is their points are seen in different colors such as brown, lilac, red, chocolate etc. Such point coloration can be seen in areas such as the feet, tails, face, ears etc. Himalayan cats may sometimes have a tabby or tortoiseshell pattern in such areas as well. Eyes are always in light or darker tones of blue for the Himalayan cat. The face is flattened, as is the case with Persian cats.

Himalayan cats are also known to be sweet tempered creatures. They certainly make very loving companions, which holds true for any cat! Himalayan cats also tend to be quite active and can survive better in an indoor life. You would then need to make an extra effort to create hidey-holes and play areas for your inquisitive Himalayan cat.

Care for the Himalayan Cats:
The Himmy cat (as it is referred to colloquially) or the Himalayan cat, have long and fluffy fur that makes it so smooth to touch. This beautiful cat needs special care due its long hair. If you spend loads of time grooming yourself, you will need to mark some time in your schedule as well, for the Himalayan cats. This is because the fur of a Himalayan cat requires special grooming and care. You can use a soft brush to detangle any knots that may have formed in the cats fur. With Himalayan cats, you would need to be careful about hairballs being formed in the stomach. Consult a vet immediately for a mild laxative if the problem arises. These cats are also susceptible to health problems such as joint problems and abnormalities of the organs due to the inbreeding activities involved for commercial use.

Always brush your cats fur daily. This would keep it looking good at all times. A Himalayan cat may be required to be bathed regularly as well. Himalayan kittens may require their face to be wiped occasionally to keep it clean. Use a soft cloth in such cases. Since their long fur may become a hindrance in the sweltering summer heat, Himalayan cats even have specific haircuts so that they do not have an uncomfortable time in the summer. In such cases, consult a professional for the same.

Himalayan cats may also tend to have watery eyes. Therefore, before you plan to adopt a Himalayan cat, you must be aware of all its health related issues so that you can offer it a comfortable life. Whichever breed of cat you may choose to have at home, remember this is a commitment and it would be your duty to look after the cat in the best way possible. These gorgeous cats need all the love and care you can shower!
