This movie was gaining mainstream attention before its release due to the tragic death of Heath Ledger who plays Joker in the Dark Knight. The Dark Knight was nominated for various awards but received two Oscars for sound editing and best supporting actor for Ledger.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: This fantasy film adapted from J.K. Rowling's book made Harry Potter and Hogwarts a household name. This is the first film in the Harry Potter series and it grossed $968,657,891 making it the sixth highest grosser of all time.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: The team of pirates struck gold again with the final installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
