High Risk Auto Insurance: The Facts You Need to Know

If you are a driver that has bad driving record, or you are of a certain age then you will likely be required to obtain high risk auto insurance. This is usually required by the state and is mandatory.

If you have been ordered to get this type of insurance means that your state has deemed you as a high risk driver. There was a time when very few people were required to get special insurance, but with the category of high risk being expanded then more people qualify for this driving status.

Factors to be considered

When your insurance company determines that you are a high risk driver they will look at many factors.

Age: A driver who is over the age of seventy and under twenty one will be classified this way and they will be required to purchase non standard insurance. This will be dependent on the state in which you live and the insurance company that holds your policy.

Citations: Having recurring speeding tickets or other citations on your record will probably cause you to be considered high risk. With some companies having just one ticket or citation will cause you to carry this insurance.

Drunk driving: If you have ever been caught driving while intoxicated high risk insurance will be the only kind that you can get. Drunk driving makes you seem irresponsible to most companies.

Suspended license: Your license being suspended will result in an order to obtain this type of insurance. If you do not carry it and you are caught driving, you will lose your license and have your vehicle suspended.

If you are ordered to get high risk auto insurance the best thing that you can do is obey the order. Remember, that insurance is a way of protecting other drivers and for protecting you.
