He’s No Cinderella, but the Shoe Fits and Nabs Criminal
A Florida man has been charged by police for leaving the scene of a crime, after they captured him when he returned for his shoe.
Early Monday morning in a Florida town near Disney’s Magic Kingdom, betrothed couple Michael Toth, 39, and Sandy McCombie, 46, were rudely awakened when a van crashed into their bathroom.
The runaway driver escaped into the dark on foot, without his shoes. The couple called police, who arrived shortly.
The FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) were viewing the crime scene a short time later when a man walked onto the lawn – barefoot.
Floridian John Aquista, 43, approached the house, bruised and bloodied, wearing only his underwear. When questioned, he told police he didn’t have anything to do with the accident. However, when the FHP ran the plates of the van, they discovered it was registered to Aquista’s address.
An officer at the scene discovered a shoe, and asked the man to try it on. "It was a perfect fit," said the Florida policemen. Aquista did not magically turn into a prince; however, he was instantly transformed into the prime suspect in the crash.
The van was impounded, and according to local sources has not yet been changed into a pumpkin.
Aquista was taken into custody at the Pasco County Jail, where he has been charged by the Florida Highway Patrol with driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. His bail has been set at $1,250.
