- Now pull a section of hair you want to begin with near the top of the head and insert your left index finger through the strand and separate it into two sections.
- Hold the sections in your left using your fingers to keep them separated and gather some hair from the right side of your head.
- Now cross the section from the right and add it to the left section.
- You need to transfer all the hair that is separated by your fingers to the right hand and leave the left hand free to continue with the left side.
- You need to gather some amount of hair from the left side and cross it over the left section and add it to the right section of hair.
- Now transfer all the hair to your right hand and repeat the above mentioned herringbone braid instructions.
- Continue doing the same steps till you do not have any more hair to add and are left with the two separated sections.
- You need to hold each section in one hand and separate a small section from the left side and add it to the right hand. Repeat the step by adding a small amount from the tight side and adding it to your left hand.
- You can continue this step till you have only a few inches of hair left at the end.
- You need to secure the herringbone braid with a rubber band to prevent it from getting untied.
There are many herringbone braid hairstyles that you can try apart from the above herringbone braid. You can try a French style herringbone braid hairstyle that begins at the hairline. In this herringbone braid hairstyle, you need to take hair sections that are about the width of your forehead and divide them into two. Then you need to cross tiny sections of the hair from the right side to left and then from the left side to the right. Continue braiding down the back of your head and add hair from the sides of your head to the two sections like in a French braid. After you reach the nape, you to need to continue braiding like you would normally braid hair.
