Helping Parents to Train their Children to Drive
‘You can never have too much practice’ is a motto that Rightway Driving School strives to uphold in its education of Queensland’s drivers of the future, and as such we offer driving lessons from teen driving lessons to refresher driving lessons and beyond with advanced driving lessons.
While we advise that professional tuition be undertaken at Rightway Driving School to ensure that your child receives all of the necessary benefits of proper instruction and direction needed for passing their test successfully and in safety, we also encourage that they obtain as much driving experience as possible outside of their driving courses.
This is necessary, not only as it counts towards their 100 logged hours required for the driving license to be granted, but also gives them the chance to gain as much practice as is needed to become a safe, competent and confident driver.
The role of parents in helping to teach their child to drive is a critical one, and at Rightway Driving School we can help to advise and assist parents in making their role as a supervising driver an effective and safe one.
We understand that your role is not to be a professional driving instructor, but you can play a vital role in helping to provide them with the practice that they need while minimizing the cost of driving lessons as you add to their level of competency.
At Rightway Driving School we can advise you on a number of issues when taking to the passenger seat of your child’s car. Here are some examples:
- Don’t immediately feel that you have to act as an instructor - that is our job. Your role is to enable them to practice their driving and gain confidence behind the wheel.
- Before each session, discuss the route and what you expect to encounter in terms of limits, conditions and potential traffic or driving scenarios.
- Make your initial journeys at times and in places of low traffic volume and in weather that is fine and where the visibility is good.
