Help for Panic Attacks - You Can Stop Panic Before It Starts

Some tried and tested help for panic attacks that can stop your anxiety escalating into a full blown panic attack.
Trying to find good help for panic attacks can be like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. I suffered with panic and anxiety for almost ten years so I’m going to share with you a few of the techniques I used to stop my panic attacks.

Distraction - You can use this technique anywhere that causes your anxiety to ramp-up. I used it all the time when I was driving as I would start to panic at the first sign of a slow-down on the highway.

Start counting backwards from a 1000 in 13’s (use any number but make sure it’s challenging), so in this example it would be 1000, 987, 974, 961 and so on. This is an excellent way to shift your focus from your mounting feelings of anxiety and stop that panic attack before it starts.

This is ideal help for panic attacks as you are stopping your anxiety from escalating into full blown panic.

Breathing - You’ve probably heard tons of stuff on this subject but so many anxiety and panic sufferers do this simple thing the wrong way and therefore make their symptoms worse, you cause that dizzy, feeling faint sensation for one. If learn to control your breathing you can stop panic attacks and especially hyperventilating in it tracks but first you must learn to breathe properly.

Lie on your back with one hand resting on your upper chest and the other hand resting on your belly button. Take a breath and notice which hand moves. The object is to make the hand on your belly move. Breathe in through your nose slowly and concentrate on making your belly to rise. This is known as diaphragmatic breathing and in an anxiety causing situation the ability to do this will lower your anxiety levels considerably.

Just these two techniques are a great help for panic attacks but you must be prepared to practice and persevere so you are equipped to cope when the time comes. You have unwittingly conditioned your body to react in a certain way to stress and it’s your job do undo that conditioning.
