-----------------------------------------------------------------
I just stared at him in wonder. He must have been the strangest human yet. He had purple and blue hair. Yeah, you heard me correctly. PURPLE and BLUE hair! With the bluest eyes ever, even his eyebrows were purple and blue. He grinned and blew another bubble, still offering me the gum. I just kept staring at him crouched on the floor beside me when finally he broke the silence, "Hey, I would love to just sit here all day too but I think we need to get to class."
"Okay" I said. Wow. I could talk! He just raised a purple eyebrow at me and picked some books up along with my schedule and looked at it. "Yep. Looks like we're in the same classes."
"Cool!" I said. This time he raised a blue eyebrow at me, "Not much of a talker, are you? Don't worry. Once I introduce you to Sasha, your lack of vocab won't matter."
"Sasha?" I asked. I felt like hitting myself. Why couldn't I talk properly? I guess I was still getting used to the amount of color on him. Oh, and the fact that he knew about our kind. He nodded, "Yeah. She's my sister. We're nothing alike though. Now come on. I can use you as an excuse for being late to class."
I followed him as he walked through different hallways.
Occasionally, he looked back to see if I were still following him. I kept my eyes on his strange hair. He wore navy blue pants and a white shirt with a striped blue tie which hung around his neck hopelessly. He wore a navy blue wristband on either hand. While we walked in silence, he kept popping some gum. Finally, we reached our first class.
He opened the door and waved his hand in, saying, "Ladies first." I simply smiled and couldn't even manage a thank you back to him. I walked in and the entire class looked at me. Then he walked in behind me and shut the door. The teacher stopped and glared at him, "ALEC. Late as usual?"
He shrugged and put one hand behind his head casually, as if he was used to this every day, "Nah. I was just helping out this lost one over here." Saying so, Alec put his hand on my head. I just stared at her and she smiled warmly at me. I'm guessing Stella purposely made me look super girly. The moment I smiled back, the teacher nearly melted. No offense to Stella, but I was going to kill her. I hated being this charming. The teacher ran over to my side and smiled at the class, "CLASS! We have a new student! Her name is....." She looked at me waiting for me to introduce myself.
I broke into a sweat, waiting for the light bulb to go off, giving me a name. Finally I smiled calmly and said, "My name is Carma. Carma Hegel." I had just made my last name up on the spot. It was a mixture of Hell Angel and I really hoped Carl had said the same thing. The moment I said my last name, Alec looked like he had been slapped. He quickly walked away and sat at the back of the class with a girl with pink hair. She wore the blue version of the uniform but she had quite obviously punked it up a little.
Alec talked to her quietly and then when she asked him something, he shrugged. He folded his arms and then looked directly at me. I quickly looked away and smiled at the class. Then the teacher began looking for a place for me. The only place available was next to Alec and the pink haired girl. I walked to the back of the class and sat down. I looked at the pink haired girl from the corner of my eye and the light bulb in my head began going on and off again. Of course, she was his friend! I groaned quietly wondering how Carl's day was going. I felt something buzz in my pocket.
I nearly screamed in shock but I quietly felt around in the pocket of this skirt. My hand clenched around a tiny metal square-ish object. I pulled it out and stared at it. One new message? Then it dawned on me. This was a cell phone! I knew how to work it. Even though lots of angels and demons used cell phones, I normally didn't. I found them quite weird. I preferred to fly and meet a person rather than keep texting and calling. I pressed on the button that said read and looked at the message.
~Yo. I'm guessing you didn't know about this cell phone thing either?~
I smiled. Carl would have dug through his pockets the moment he was free.
~Nope. How are you doing so far?~
~Okay. I mean, maybe I'm doing well. No one tried picking on me yet. And I found the...umm, girl.~
Carl sounded weird. Even though we were texting, I could literally sense the weirdness when he said 'girl'
~Omg. Did something happen to you Carlie?~
~Don't call me that. Ever. And...No. I don't know. Do you have 6th period Lunch?~
~How can you not know if something happened!? OMG. Carlie has a crush!!!!!~
~Again, I'M THE IMMATURE ONE?~
I laughed quietly and then quickly risked a glance at the two weird siblings on my right. Alec had stretched out and was looking at the board. The pink haired girl was busy doodling on her notebook. I tried to find my schedule to check when I had lunch when I realized Alec still had it.
"Alec?" I whispered. Alec didn't move at all. He simple looked at me from the corner of his eye, waiting. "My schedule?"
He looked back at the board and for a minute I thought he wasn't going to give me my schedule. Then he reached into his desk and passed it to me. I smiled gratefully but he just stared at me as if he was trying to figure out who I really was. I looked away quickly and began texting Carl again.
~Yesss! 6th period lunch! Yeay! Ask the girl out for a lunch date!~
~Really? To a cafeteria?~
~Aww. Come on. Is she cute?~
~She's blond.~
~So? You say that like it's a bad thing!~
~It isn't. Ah screw it. What about you?~
~Let's just say, I wish my targets were blonde.~
~HAHAHA what color?~
~Blue and Purple. And I'm not talking about the girl.~
~You're kidding. ~
~Carl, I was speechless when I saw it too. Why are humans so weirddddd??~
~Where did you meet them?~
~Um. I met him on the floor. And the girl with the pink hair in class. We haven't talked yet.~
~FLOOR?~
~Yeah, this absolutely rude human pushed me. I fell. My books fell. My papers fell.~
~Oh. Did you see who it was?~
~Duh. I wanted to barbecue her.~
~Brilliant. Hey, I have an idea.~
~???~
~Wanna get back at her?~
~YES. But I don't want to cause trouble on our very first day.~
~Brie will help!~
~Brie=?~
~The girl. Why don't you ask your new friends?~
~Maybe coz they keep looking at me all strangely?~
~What did you do?~
~Nothing! When I told the class my name was Carma Hegel, he freaked.~
Suddenly, I noticed that the class had gone very quiet. I looked up to see the teacher towering over Alec who was asleep. I quickly shoved my phone into my pocket, thanking my stars that I didn't get caught. Alec snored slightly and I giggled. Alec opened one eye and stared at the teacher. I wonder what her name was. I didn't quite catch it. Alec asked, "What's the matter?"
"DETENTION!" screamed the teacher. She stormed to the front while Alec just slouched in his seat. I just looked at the weird slip she had handed him. Alec looked at me and whispered, "Stop texting. Miss Hernand hates phones."
I nodded slowly and checked my cell one last time.
~CARMA YOU IDIOT. Meet in lunch. I'll explain.~
~K!~
~And I don't care how you do it, get the two of them! We have to befriend them in four days!~
~okay okay! Don't worry.~
~I'm not. I know we're screwed.~
~What? Why?~
~Lunch.~
I rolled my eyes. Finally, the bell rang and I stood up slowly, unsure of where to go. Right when I stood up, about four guys came to me and asked, "Should we walk you to your next class?"
I just smiled, unsure of what to do. Then I remembered, Alec had said we were in the same class. I shrugged apologetically, "I'm sorry. I really am, but Alec promised to take me to all my classes."
Alec and the pink haired girl just looked stunned. I quickly ran over to them and we all walked in silence. Finally the pink haired girl grinned, "Soooo You're Carma? Alec told me about how Mean Nancy was to you. Don't worry. That girl and the rest of those blonde barbies were just jealous of how cute you are!" She twirled around me and continued, "Screw them. I mean seriously, every high school is incomplete without them. We always have to have the mean bit...uhh witches."
I kept smiling at her when Alec cut in, "I told you. Sasha talks for all three of us." Sasha pushed Alec and stuck her tongue out at him, "You're just jealous cause no one EVER listens to you."
Alec rolled his eyes, "And you think people listen to you!?" I looked at them squabbling and then it dawned on me! "OH! You two are dating!"
Alec and Sasha both stopped fighting and stared at me in horror. Then Sasha screamed, "Are you crazy!? He's like....my brother!!!!!" Oh no. Oh my gosh. I thought they were going out! I mean, they seemed so comfortable around each other! They didn't even look like each other! Sasha had pink hair and beautiful big hazel brown eyes; she was short and so hyper! On the other hand, Alec was tall, had brilliant blue eyes like sapphires, and didn't even show much emotion. They were exact opposites! Alec sighed, "I told you. We don't look like each other."
Oh and Alec liked being right and saying 'I told you' a lot. I felt like hitting myself. Sasha jumped and hugged me, "OH MY GOSH! You're so cuuuute! You're like a little baby doll! Don't turn all red like that! It's okay! Awwwww!" I was absolutely stunned. What was with humans? One minute they're screaming, the next they are all over you and saying you are cute.
I laughed shakily, "Thanks. Hey...Do you guys want to eat lunch with me? and my brother?"
Sasha stopped hugging me and began laughing. Even Alec was chuckling to himself while I just stared at them in wonder. "Dude. You don't ask people to have lunch with you. You crazy old bat!" exclaimed Alec. I just stared at him, confused. Sasha continued his sentence, "To answer your question, Of course we will! Crazy coconut! Isn't it obvious? But, our cousin Brie always eats with us. So okay then, it's a group date! Woohoooo!" Saying so, Sasha took off and ran really fast. Alec followed after her, laughing and running just as fast.
I shook my head in amazement. These two were absolute nuts. I wonder how Brie dealt with them? Then, I just ran after them quickly, since they were my only route to my next class. When all three of us finally reached, we were right on time. For the rest of the day, I kept smiling and introducing myself to every class and sat next to Alec or Sasha. Only this time, I paid attention.
FINALLY, it was time for lunch. Sasha looped her hand around mine and led me to the giant cafeteria. Right then I saw Carl and was about to yell and wave at him when Sasha screamed, "BRIE!! OVER HERE!!"
I saw who Brie was and was a little surprised to see her holding Carl's hand dragging him quickly towards us. Carl looked absolutely lost which must have been a first for him. The moment they got close to us, I ran over to Carl and hugged him, "Carlieeee!"
He grinned, "Yo! I told you not to call me that!" Brie looked at me, a little suspicious. If I hadn't looked sooner, I would have missed the flash of jealousy. I grinned to myself. Oh, looks like Carl already had an admirer. Carl turned to Brie, "Brie, this is my sister, Carma. Carma, meet Brie."
The moment Brie heard that I was his sister, a familiar grin crept across her face and before I knew it, I was hugged by Brie too. I smiled and then Brie let go. Then I introduced Alec and Sasha to Carl, "So yeah, they're siblings. Meet Alec and Sasha." Carl nodded and stared at Alec's purple and blue eyebrows.
"Okay, normally, we do things like this. Brie holds a table while Alec and I get the food. Today, Carma and Brie, you hold a table. Carl, you come with us and help with the food" ordered Sasha.
Carl and me nodded. We were used to orders. Suddenly, I heard this weird voice in my head. It kept telling me to leave the campus and go to the park. I ignored it until it got louder. I groaned, "Brie, I need some air. Do you think you can just stay here? I'll be back in ten minutes ok?"
Brie nodded, looking concerned but I just ran off really fast. I walked out of the campus easily. I went straight to the park and looked around. Stella sat on a tree grinning, "So? How is it?"
"Mighty fine. We met all three of them. I have a feeling the little one has a tiny crush on Carl."
Stella and I giggled like we were old friends. Stella waggled her eyebrows, "I knew Carl would be a hit with the ladies!" We burst into fits of laughter again thinking of Carl's agonized face when he realized he had to befriend a girl his age. Finally we calmed down and I asked, "So, how do we erase their memory?"
"Don't worry child. I have a plan. Just get close to them for now. That's all."
I nodded and then as suddenly as Stella had appeared, she disappeared. I turned around and nearly jumped into a tree when I saw Alec waiting at the park entrance, looking right at me.
For a few minutes we just kept looking at each other. I kept thinking about how our cover was blown already. Stupid Stella, it was her fault for calling me out here. Then I began walking towards Alec, slowly. Once I finally got to the entrance, Alec looked at me strangely, "Does talking to trees really clear your mind?"
"Umm, yeah. I needed some air. So yes. The tree helps." I felt like jumping in joy! He hadn't seen Stella in the tree. Then I frowned. Oh dear. He already thinks I'm suspicious and now he saw me talking to a tree. Alec shrugged, "I thought it was just a thing, you know. When you first meet someone, everyone is a little strange. But you? Even now, you're all cautious and talking to trees."
I laughed, "That isn't fair! When I first met you, I was surprised okay?" He grinned, "Why? Was it because of my strange hair? Or maybe my sexy blue eyes hooked you?"
I laughed even harder, "Oh yes, your SEXY blue eyes! No, I have a feeling it was your purple eyebrow." He smirked, "But the blue eyebrow was brighter!" "You are one of the vainest people ever!" I exclaimed.
"At least I don't just talk in one word answers when I meet someone for the first time." I just made a funny face at him and he stuck his tongue out. So for the rest of the way, we kept making weird faces at each other the whole time. Every other pedestrian, on seeing us, would either cross the road or walk by us very fast. Once we reached school, I was nearly collapsing in laughter. What was wrong with this human? He was mental!
Just as we were about to walk into school, I noticed a shadowy figure from the corner of my eye. I stopped, unsure if I had actually seen who I thought I saw. Alec smiled, "You coming or what?"
I nodded, "No, you go on. I'll just be away for a minute." I dashed past the school gates and ran into an alley. I know I had seen the shadow disappear here. I looked around, "I know you are here. Just get out already."
Suddenly, I felt a rush of air behind me. I turned and faced him. "What are you even doing here?"
Levi smiled innocently.
