I sat there impatiently thinking to myself when will this end. I had counted every second of the past 7 minutes. 420 seconds and ongoing I thought keeping my gaze fixated on the clock. It was the last exam of my final year of college and I couldn't be happier.
I looked around the exam room, I had expected far fewer people to be taking on biology, especially people from my college. In my college girls were just into guys and guys were just into girls.
I could count the number of people who actually went to college for the sake of an education and not just the EMA. "Maybe there were more people in the other biology set" I thought to myself. My set on consisted of 4 people and 5 re-sitters. "Yes, loads of re-sitters" I thought to myself. 2 more minutes Tasha, just 2, 120 seconds, I thought to myself impatiently.
I had finished my last biology paper 20 minutes ago. I had re-read my answers many times over, just to single out any errors I thought could happen, re-did all the genetics calculations and finally checked my name and candidate number for the hundredth time. I wanted my college life to finish and there was just 1 more minute to go.
"Okay, then, pens down. Can you please stop writing now everyone?" I heard the invigilator say. I let out a huge sigh of relief. "Yes" I said out loud. Chris looked up at me. He understood why I was so happy. He was the only person in my biology class I actually talked to. He was probably just as happy as I am.
The papers were collected all in and I just wanted to jump out of my seat and out of the college doors. My college was actually a sixth form college. So we didn't get many new faces after we had finished school. The area the school was located in wasn't a bad area, it just wasn't my area.
We were allowed to leave the room, I quickly picked up my bad and rushed out the door heading towards the school gates. Everyone was screaming and shouting and running around like it was some kind of scene from waterloo road. I just ignored them and walked on. "Wait" I thought to myself. "Mrs Dean" I said out loud. Mrs dean was the only person I could talk to properly. She was also my bioloft teacher. One of very few people who actually cared about the students education, maybe even more than the students themselves.
She had helped my write-up my personal statement for UCAS and maybe because of her help I had gotten all my offers. I had always dreamt of being a doctor and my dream was about to become reality. I had been accepted my first choice, University of Manchester for medicine. I know it wasn't the most desired places like oxford and Cambridge but it did rank 5th on the league tables, but more importantly, that's where my father started his journey from.
"Hey Mrs D" I shouted at her, as I saw her unlock her door to her office. "Hello Natasha, how was the paper?". "It was okay, You were right the synoptic paper was really hard, I did the oxygen question" I sounded fairly confident. I was.
"Thanks for everything" I looked at her smiling. "Oh I got this for you" I handed her a gift bag. "Oh thank you Natasha" She said taking the bag from me. "You be a good girl and come back very soon". I'd like to show you off after 5 years. I smiled back at her. "Will do" I replied. "Bye and take care" I said to her as I left.
The corridors were empty. It felt calm and peaceful. I wanted to just look around for a bit. My school was old. It had huge windows, beams on the ceilings and long corridors. "Old?" I thought to myself as I chuckled and said "Ancient more like". "Yes it is ancient" I heard a voice behind me. I turned around to see Mr Woodworth standing behind me. "Natasha Abrahams, star people of the year" He said. I smiled at him. "It's been a pleasure to have known you, you be a good girl now" He said to me. Mr Woodworth and my father were school friends. "I've liked it her a little too" I shrugged my shoulders. "Take care" I said and walked off.
The only reason I stayed here was because it was the same school my dad had come to. I walked out of the main entrance onto the parking lot and turned into the schools green playground. I saw a group of boys. What were they doing? There were two boys on the ground. Same old, same old, I thought to myself. Oldham wasn't stranger to gang and violence. One of the boys were bleeding. "Don't you fuckin' say that about my dad again" Shouted one of the boys, he had a bit of a Scottish accent.
The boy who had his back towards me was tall, about 5'9 and was well-built. I could see his hands they were huge compared to mine. I walked on and stopped as I looked at him. He looked towards me, our gaze met. Everything went silent. He had dark brown eyes that almost seemed black, thick eyebrows and his hair were messed, they fell on his eyes. I looked away and then looked back at me, like he felt guilty. And walked away. "Zain, dude where are you going" one of the other boys yelled at him.
I walked off. "hmm so that's
Zain" I said. I had heard about him. He moved here from Scotland a year before I joined. Amber was mad over him. Amber is my sister. From what I had heard about him, he was a gangster and a lady's man. He was a year older than me and was re-sitting his final year again. That was probably one of the main reasons I didn't see him much.
I kept having flashbacks. His eyes, there was something there, guilty, sadness. I couldn't pinpoint it but I wanted to find put so bad. "Tasha, Focus! I yelled. "No I am leaving all this behind when I go to University" I said to myself while I sat on the bus stop waiting for the bus.
