Healthy Halloween Treats for Kids

Halloween is a great time for kids, but some parents may be concerned about the health implications posed by the large amount of sweets and candy given to children at Halloween parties. But healthier and fun alternative Halloween treats are available...
Many people want to be able to have some healthy Halloween treats for kids. There are options you can choose that will let you have some healthier choices for those trick or treating goblins. Here are a few suggestions that you may want to consider using. Check out your online vendors or discount stores to get the best prices on large bags of healthy goodies such as these:

-Colorful pencils and notepads
-Stickers
-Small inexpensive games, puzzles or whistles
-Packages of sugar free chewing gum
-Individual Packs of dried fruit
-Small boxes of raisins
-Individual packages of trail mix
-Juice boxes
-Individual packs of pretzels
-Small boxes of crayons or colored chalk

You can make a tempting array of kid friendly party foods that are healthy and fun to eat.
Devil Eyes- these are made from olives and Ritz crackers. Slice the olives in half. Spread a light coating of mayonnaise or ranch dressing onto the cracker and then place the olive halves (Devil Eyes) on each of the Ritz crackers. Be sure that you use both the olive and pimiento so that you get the full visual effect.

Witches' Brew- Hollow out a pumpkin and set a large punch bowl inside the shell. Put some dry ice between the punch bowl and the pumpkin shell. In the bowl you can mix lime sherbet, orange sherbet and ginger ale together. Place this in the center of the table and serve the punch to guests while the dry ice produces spooky, mysterious smoke for several hours.

Apple Spiders- Use prepared apple slices for this recipe. You can find these at your local store. Just coat the apple slices with peanut butter and then attach some thin pretzel sticks for the legs and use raisins or nuts for the eyes. With a little imagination you can transform the apple slices into other edible bugs, caterpillars or even some wonderfully colorful butterflies.

Create edible bracelets by stringing Cheerios or other doughnut shaped cereal onto colorful orange and black ribbons.

Carrots are a perfect Halloween treat because they are low cal veggies and they have a brilliant orange color. Slice them lengthwise into strips of different sizes. Let your kids give them a unique name such as "Bilbo's Bony Bones". Make a healthy dip from peanut butter and honey and place it near the carrots. This is a tempting treat that kids can not resist.

You can make some Asiago Cheese Twists for kids and adults to enjoy. This is a healthy vegetarian recipe that will delight everyone.

- Roll out a sheet of puff pastry that has been thawed to room temperature. Brush it with some beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with about ½ cup of finely grated Asiago Cheese. Then fold the pastry sheet in half and roll it out once again until it is about 10 in. x 10 in. Chill the pastry in the fridge for about 30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Remove the pastry sheet from the fridge and slice it into strips that are about ½ inch wide. Then twist each of the strips into a spiral and place them on a baking sheet lined with some parchment paper. Cook for 10-12 minutes and then serve them to your guests. (Grated Parmesan Cheese can be substituted for the Asiago Cheese.)
