There are many people who suffer from headaches everyday. Interestingly (or not so interestingly!), most of them become habitual to them after a certain period of time. However, for a few, headaches everyday become a genuine trouble. So read on for various types of headaches, their causes and treatments.
Headaches can be really annoying if they occur on a regular basis? There are many who don't even care for a headache, as for them headaches have become a normal issue and neither do their routine activities, nor does their work get affected due to these headaches! So we'll categorize these people as 'Great People' and not talk much about them. Our concern over here are people who are really fed up of these everyday headaches and are keenly interested in knowing the causes and also the treatments for such headaches.

Before proceeding to the types and other advanced aspects, let us figure out, what exactly does a headache mean? Headache can be defined as light or severe pain in the entire head or a part of it. Headaches have their own time-table and areas for occurrences. Some people suffer headaches everyday at the same time, whilst some experience headaches everyday for a week or so. For some, headaches in back of head occur regularly and for a few headache behind eyes are an everyday trouble. Besides these two types of headaches, there are many other types. Some of them are discussed below.

Types of Headache

Hunger Headaches Hunger headaches are the ones occurring in any part of the head, just before the mealtime or when you start feeling hungry. Hunger headaches occur on account of starving beyond the regular meal times or in case of skipping either of the meals. In some cases, oversleeping is also found to be the cause of hunger headaches. Hunger headaches can continue for a long time and sometimes medications do not prove very effective. However, feeding the body with regular and nourishing meals alleviates the problem up to a large extent. The only way to prevent hunger headaches is having meals regularly.
Cluster Headaches Headaches occurring near the eye area. These are characterized by nose congestion, tearing of the eye and usually develop during sleep. Cluster headaches can last for a long time and can occur everyday for a few weeks. These are commonly seen in people falling in the age group of 25 to 50. Addictions towards smoking and alcohol are believed to be the probable cause of cluster headaches. Cluster headaches can be treated with the help of intranasal application of a local anesthetic agent or by adequate oxygen supply to the body. Avoiding excessive smoking and alcohol addiction are also possible solutions to cluster headaches.
Allergy Headaches Usual headaches depending upon the degree of allergies towards certain elements such as bad odor, strong fragrance etc. Such headaches are characterized by watery eyes and nasal congestion. These headaches occur on account of allergic reactions towards dust, molds, pollen and certain smells. Allergy headaches can be treated with the help of desensitizing injections or nasal cortisone sprays. Tying a cloth covering your mouth and nose region and if possible avoiding places which contain any of the causative elements are among the possible preventions that you can take against this type of headache.
Hypertension Headaches Normal headache which is observed to be quite severe in the morning time but decreases as the day progresses. The most important cause behind this headache is the elevation in blood pressure, which goes up to 200 systolic and about 100-110 diastolic. Common blood pressure medications with a proper prescription from a doctor, usually relieve a person from such headaches. Controlling blood pressure levels by regularly following the prescribed medications, keep such headaches at bay.
Exertion Headaches Exertion headaches are normal headaches of a duration of about few minutes to about 1.5 hours. These usually occur while doing heavy exercises such as fast running, heavy weightlifting or also passive exertion activities such as prolonged coughing, sneezing etc. Exertion headaches generally occur due to cluster or migraine problems. However, organic diseases such as blood vessel malformation, aneurysms can also be the causes. The treatments for such headaches depends upon the cause, but the most commonly used medications to relieve this kind of headache are indomethacin, aspirin or propranolol. Sometimes surgical procedures also are likely to be suggested to cure organic headaches. Performing light exercises without exerting the body too much and having sufficient rest are some of the preventive measures for exertion headaches.
Migraine with Aura Migraine with aura is a severe one sided pain, characterized by warning symptoms such as numbness in feet and arms and visual interruptions. The intensity of these warning symptoms normally decreases within an hour and is followed by a severe pain. Excessive smoking, reactions after consuming certain types of foods, weather changes and excessive hunger are the most probable causes of migraine with aura. Early symptoms of migraine with aura can be treated with the help of dihydroergotamine or biofeedback, ergotamine. However for a developed pain, analgesics and medications constricting the blood vessels, 5-HT agonists and DHE nasal spray and injections are commonly used. Preventive measures for migraine headaches include NSAIDs, calcium blockers and biofeedback beta-blockers.
Migraine without Aura Migraine without aura is also characterized by severe one-sided pain along with vomiting, nausea, sensitivity towards sound and light and coldness in hands. The causes of migraine without aura are same as migraine with aura. Medications employed in migraine with aura are generally effective to treat migraine without aura, however, you need to consult a doctor before doing so. Preventive measures are same as in migraine with aura.

Hopefully you must have got an idea of all the different types of headaches mentioned above. Apart from these, there are many other headaches like tumor headache, sinus headaches, temporal arteritis etc. However, these cannot be categorized as headaches that occur regularly for a healthy individual.
