Hawaiian Recipes
The amazing state of Hawaii brings to my mind vivid colors and beautiful beaches. When it comes to cuisine, this place is brimming with some mouthwatering dishes. Read on for some Hawaiian recipes that are bound to leave you asking for more.
Hawaiian Recipes:
Hawaiian Lau Lau:
Ingredients:
Luau leaves(30)
Large ti leaves (6)
Boneless chicken thighs (6)
Hawaiian sea salt (1 1/2 teaspoons)
Salted butterfish - cut it into 6 pieces (1/4 lb)
Belly pork boneless pork chops – cut it into 6 pieces (1 lb)
Toothpicks/rubber bands
Preparation:
First, wash the luau and the ti leaves. Remove the stems and the fibrous portions. Then layer around 5 luau leaves and place a single piece of chicken along with the pork and the fish as well. Then, sprinkle some Hawaiian salt, around ¼ spoon over this. Wrap this so that it forms a bundle. This bundle needs to be placed on the edge of a ti leaf. Wrap this tightly as well. Use the toothpicks or the rubber bands to fasten it further. Now, wrap the remaining bundles as well. Boil some quantity of water in a steamer. Next, place the Lau Laus in this steamer and keep it on low heat. Let this simmer for six hours.
Hawaiian Swordfish Recipe:
Peanut oil (1/4 C)
Fresh swordfish - in blocks (1 lb)
Panko (1 C)
Furikake (1 C)
Eggs (2)
Flour (½ C)
Garlic powder (2 T)
Dried basil (1 T)
Salt and pepper
Preparation:
Firstly, season the fish with some salt and pepper. Then, combine the panko along with the garlic, furikake and the basil. Mix this combination together. Beat the eggs in a small bowl and keep this aside. Next, coat the fish with some flour and dip the fish into the egg mixture. Once you do this, coat it with the furikake mix. Now, heat the peanut oil in a skillet until it smokes. Cook the fish till the sides turn brown. Leave it rare in the middle portion. Once done, slice and serve it with the Java sambal.
Hawaiian Fish Recipe:
Ingredients:
Fish fillets (2lbs)
Juice of lemon (1)
Garlic salt
Pepper
Breadcrumbs
Mayonnaise (1 cup)
Finely chopped onions (1/4 cup)
Preparation:
First, you need to preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Then, rinse the fish and place this in a baking dish. You can now squeeze the juice of lemon over this. Sprinkle some garlic salt along with pepper. You need to mix the mayonnaise with the chopped onions and spread this on the fish. Sprinkle some amount of the breadcrumbs over this. Now, you need to bake this preparation at 425 degrees F. Bake for a period of 20 to 25 minutes.
Hawaiian Dessert Recipe (Bread Pudding):
Ingredients:
French bread, broken up (6 slices)
Flaked coconut (1/2 cup)
Eggs (2)
Milk (2 cups)
Small crushed pineapple
Chopped pecans (1/2 cup)
Sugar (1 cup)
Margarine (1/8 lb)
Rum - optional (2 tablespoons)
Preparation:
Place the slices of bread in the microwave bowl. You need to mix the pineapple along with the coconut and the pecans into this. Place this aside. Now, beat the eggs and the sugar together. Place this aside as well. You need to heat the milk and margarine in the microwave on high heat. Heat for about 3 ½ minutes. Once done, remove this and add some rum. Add the beaten egg and the sugar into the milk mixture. Pour this preparation over the bread. Mix this well. Place this in the microwave and cook for about 4 ½ minutes on high heat. Let this set for about 5 to 10 minutes. Serve with your favorite sauce if desired.
