Has your ski or snowboard vacation flight been canceled?

If you have already booked the air for your next ski/ride vacation you may want to check with the airline and make sure that your flight still exists! With record high oil prices making jet-fuel prices rise, airlines have to cut routes and schedules just to stay in business. Most are already charging for your first checked bag, and adding fees for curbside-checkin, etc.

Most schedule changes are to start taking effect this fall. Airlines are doing their best to notify their customers of cancellations and changes. But in these times of airline turmoil it's better to be safe than sorry.

Even if your flight is not canceled, small changes in departure times can result in missed connections. Which in turn can lead to missed skiing/riding days, paying for ski resort lodging not used. And if you miss your connection there is no requirement that the airlines get you on the next flight or a specific flight. So you might even find yourself spending a night in your missed connection location.

So far the airlines saying that they are cutting domestic capacity in the second half of 2008 are:

United is cutting up to 14%.
Delta is cutting up to 13%.
American is cutting up to 12%.
Continental is cutting up to 11%.
Northwest is cutting up to 9.5%.
US Air is cutting up to 8%.

Don't let the airlines ruin your next ski/ride vacation. If you've already booked your air, check back with the airline and make sure everything is the way you want it. It will only take a minute, and it might save you time, money, and lots of aggravation.
