She has written seven books, which have translated into forty-seven languages, including ancient Greek. The books are -
The first story opens with the apparent end of the reign of the evil Voldemort, by the seemingly magical young baby called Harry Potter, the only child of James and Lily Potter. The wizard Albus Dumbledore, for safekeeping, delivers the boy to his aunt’s house. These are Harry Potter’s cruel non-magical relatives, the Dursleys. The first 12 years of the boy are miserable; finally, the gamekeeper Hagrid, with whom he shares a wonderful relationship, delivers him to Hogwarts, the wizard school.
Dumbledore the school’s well-reputed principal, a mighty wizard, becomes his mentor. Here he meets Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, who become his best friends. He also meets Draco Malfoy, who becomes a part of the plot that plans his downfall. The entire story takes place in the wizard world, so different from “muggle” or normal non-wizard world. The evil Lord Voldemort resurrects himself over the series of the six books and the world is in peril, only Harry Potter, with the help of his friends can stop him. This is traditional tale of good verses evil, yet it understands the imperfect world that children live in, full of deceit, racism, fights on supremacy, and other such evils. On the other hand, there is true friendship, love, courage, the discipline of schooling, loyalty and so much more.
Most of the stories take place in the Hogwarts Wizarding School, a world inhabited by wizards and witches, ghosts, centaurs, unicorns, and even some trolls and demons, owls and other non-magical and magical creatures add color. This world is very much a part of this earth, where the magical and non-magical co-exist. Here students are chosen for their wizard abilities and even “muggles” are chosen, if they display the attributes. Both Harry’s mother and Hermione Granger are muggles who make excellent witches. Hogwarts is a castle, full of spells and happenings, controlled ably by Albus Dumbledore. He guides with wisdom and affection. One of the main teacher’s, Severus Snape, one of the best wizards, was an enemy of Harry’s parents and he resists the young boy in school. Yet he is forced to protect the boy, his character unfolds in different shades over the next six books.
Through the six books complications arise, the plot gets thicker and finally things come to a head, finally it is clear that Harry Potter will now have to stand face to face with the evil force of Lord Voldemort alone.
The seventh book where this story will unfold is awaited; debates are raging across the internet, on the fate of the hero, Harry Potter.
There have been four highly successful Harry Potter films. The first two films were directed by Chris Columbus, the third was directed by Alfonso Cuarón, while the fourth was by Mike Newell. The fifth is still under production and is being directed by David Yates.
Harry Potter series of books has also resulted in many spins offs, computer games, clothing merchandise, and more. J. K. Rowling, the creator of the series, has received many awards and much praise from fellow writers like Stephen King. She had written the first book under very adverse circumstances, a single mother, with very little money and a baby to take off. Today she is one of the most powerful names in publishing.
Harry Potter series of books will last forever, and providing joy to the readers of the future.
