Hardwood Floors Installation: The Professional Way

Unless you have some good handy many skills hardwood floor installation should be handled by professionals. Here's why.
Have you ever gotten started on something and mid-way through the project you shouted, "Damn! I should have hired someone to do this s...!" Then don't feel bad, you are among many men who thought they possessed the skills and know how to build a pyramid, only to find out they should have studied Egyptology. Hardwood floors installation is no different than building a pyramid, when you don't have the skills and experience necessary to complete the task.

Don't be misled! An installation manual or some floor kit claiming to train you in an hour will not suffice in completing this task. You must be able to operate basic hand tools like hammers, handsaws, levels and maybe even some electrical tools if you want to be considered a competent and qualified person for installing hardwood floors.

Among the few hand tools mentioned above that will be necessary for installing hardwood floors, none is more important than the basic leveling apparatus since installing a hardwood floor over sub flooring has disaster written all over it.

Knowing how to level your floor before installation of a hardwood floor speaks volumes for you when embarking upon such a task. The handsaw and hammer will come in handy as well when you approach where adjustments are necessary. Most, if not all, hardwood floor installed will always need some form of adjustment or revision done to it.

It is always a smart move to request professional installation help when faced with the task of sub flooring - which is the installing of another layer of solid and sturdy wood over concrete. A proper and sturdy foundation is tantamount to installing a hardwood floor. Otherwise, you could be faced with the issue of a drooping floor. And we all know nobody wants to be in that situation. Most homes that were built in the late 60's or early 70's would be considered older model homes and could have unlevel floors. This gives good reason for a red flag to go up cautioning you to seek professional help before installing a hardwood floor.

If you believe you have all your bases covered, then a professional hardwood floors installation may be out of the question for you. You can therefore save that money for another task. In any event, don't be a fool and try to do something you know you're not trained to do.

Try something other than hardwood floors like ceramic tile or carpet, they're much easier to install on a new and/or level foundation. Lots of times you may have to redo a carpeted floor. This is usually when one runs across the need for sub flooring because removing reveals what's underneath it. Installing more carpet is a lot cheaper, and of course, easier to install than hardwood floors.

You can find a plethora of professional hardwood floor installation craftsmen on the internet, local yellow pages or other sources where services are offered. Just be sure you're not misled or taken advantage of. There are vultures and vampires out there waiting to feast on your hard earned money.
