Hard Disk Failure

If you don't have a data back up mechanism for your PC, you can get in trouble if your system's hard disk crashes. Find out more about hard disk failure in this article.
A hard disk is the most important data storage component of your laptop and computers. Its failure can amount to potential data loss and hence, can temporarily halt your working. The situation worsens when you don't have a backup and you're at the verge of losing all your important data. "Hard disk failure is imminent" - if messages of this type occur on your PC, then it's a warning that your hard drive detects that it will fail or stop working sometime soon (within a few minutes or hours). Broadly categorized, there are four types of hard disk failures. Mostly, they occur because of following reasons:
  1. Electronic Failure
  2. Mechanical Failure
  3. Firmware Corruption
  4. Logical Errors
Electronic Failure
Generally, this failure is caused by power spikes, voltage fluctuations, electrical surges and it is related to some fault on the controller board. In this case, the hard disk can't be detected when a problem occurs and there may be clicking sound as the heads search or initialize. When the drive is powered on, there will be no spin in the hard disk and it won't be recognized by the computer. Since, the printed circuit board acts as a communication link between read and write data of hard disk, a damage in any component of PCB of controller board can also leads to hard disk failure. Generally, recovery of data after electronic failure is 100% possible. All you've got to do is to contact a data recovery center.

Mechanical Failure
Mechanical failures occur due to defect in internal hard disk components. In case of any internal component fault, the hard disk stops functioning. There may be a clicking sound when the hard drive is powered on. For mechanically repairing a hard disk or to recover the data, one has to ensure that the hard drive is opened in lab conditions and in a clean room area. It's makes sense not to be tempted and open the hard disk drive for repairing on your own. In normal rooms, dust and dirt can enter delicate areas of hard drive and damage it. Moreover, if you are opening the hard disk, there are chances that you may end any chances of further hard drive data recovery due to poor handling.

Logical Errors
Logical errors are very easy to deal with, the problem may be small but it can be seriously difficult to overcome if there is corruption and loss of file system on a fragmented drive. Logical errors are different from mechanical and electrical errors, as there is no fault in the hard drive but the information stored on it causes logical errors. There are various data recovery software tools, that have been designed to tackle this problem however, you've got to be aware that you don't run any software that makes it difficult for the data to be recovered.

Firmware Corruption
It occurs due to discrepancy in some embedded software code, that interferes with the other programs of the computer.

Hard disk data recovery is a technical process of recovering trapped data from damaged hard disk, access to which is not possible owing to several problems. Physical damage of the hard disk drive can be recovered by replacing with parts like read/write heads, arms and chips, platters, etc. Properly opening the hard disk drive and carefully cleaning is essential to recover data. It is always advisable to visit expert services so that you don't end up damaging the hard disk further.
