Hard Disc Recovery

Every computer user is familiar with the phrase 'hard disc recovery' and what it means. To know more about the hard disc recovery, read on...
Hard Disc Recovery
Occasionally, you find that you can not access data using your computer system. The underlying cause can be either damaged or sabotaged hard disc or failed or inaccessible hard disc drive. In such a case, you need to subject the hard disc of your computer system, to the process of hard disc recovery in order to recover deleted files and data. Imagine the predicament of a magazine publishing company which has lost its customer database, a day before the magazines are mailed. The customer database contains the mailing addresses of the valuable customers of the company. Magazines are printed and ready to be mailed, but where and to whom the company is supposed to mail them.

Causes of Data Loss

Electrical damage: A voltage sag or surge also known as voltage spike or complete black-out can create problems for you by inflicting damage to your data storage devices such as your hard disc.
  • Sag: A short term decrease in the voltage is referred to as sag. During this situation a computer is starved of the electrical power necessary for its functioning and data may be lost due to incomplete write operation which in layman's term is 'save operation' or incomplete updation of file allocation table (FAT) of hard disc.
  • Black-out: In case of complete black-out data in RAM is lost for ever. A black-out may also affect data in FAT which can make the data on the hard disc inaccessible.
  • Spike: A sudden increase in the voltage is referred to as voltage spike which can cause havoc with the delicate working of a computer system which often performs operations with in range of -5 to +5 volts. A voltage spike can cause damage the information stored in the FAT of the hard disc and data loss. According to Bell laboratory 80-86% of data losses are due to voltage fluctuation and in each case you may be forced to spend money on hard drive data recovery.
Physical damage: Some time data may become inaccessible due to physical damage to the hard drives or their components such as read/write head or driver motor etc. Hard disk repair or replacing the malfunctioning parts may make the data stored on the hard disc accessible. However, if there is physical damage to the magnetic surface where the data is actually stored, a condition referred to as 'bad sectors', the lost data cannot be recovered. It is lost permanently.

Recover crashed hard drive:Data recovery Softwares are used to recover lost data due to accidental deletion of files or formatting of hard discs or partitions of hard disc and to recover data from the crashed hard discs.

Data Backup

Data backup can reduce the severity of data loss. The problem of data loss can be overcome by regular data backup. You need to invest in the data storage mediums such as hard discs or external hard discs etc and store the latest version of your data on it. A person thus prepared would hardly need to take the option of hard disc recovery.

File Allocation Table

'FAT' to a hard disc is as important as an index to a book. Loosing either of them means that you have lost a central place where references to the parts of the hard disc or the book were stored. In case of a book, and an index gives information about where to find a particular chapters or lessons. A typical entry in the FAT of a hard disc drive stores information (addresses of locations) about where the first and last bit of a file is stored on the hard disc. If this information in the FAT is lost then the operating system of the computer cannot find the required file. The file is on the hard disc but references to it stored in FAT are lost. This situation forces us to use a data recovery software or for people who are not computer savvy, who need to resort to outside help for computer consulting in the form of professionals or guides to get the hard disc data recovery done for them. Data recovery softwares try to repair FAT entries during the hard disc drive recovery.

Data is important to every one whether it is personal or business related data. Loosing business data to a hard disc crash can easily wipe out a business or make its survival difficult. The only option left in such a situation to obtain lost data is that of hard disc recovery.
