Happy Endings -One Shot-
My first short story, please enjoy.
7:04. It's morning. The sun has shone, the moon has disappeared into nothing. Just like any other day. I lie in nothing but a pool of sweat and a stained sheet. It was only a dream. It always is. I stare up at the ceiling, easing my heavy breathing. Calming down, I could hear her running down the hall, probably racing around looking for a missing shoe as usual. I take one deep breath as I pull myself out of bed. I have to take advantage, and wash this mess away before anyone can see the evidence. I strip the sheets, leaving nothing but a bare mattress, and rush out to the laundry room. I've become an expert at this, washing soiled sheets that is. It happens almost every night. I go to bed, thinking only about her. She sneaks into my room, and has a chat with me about school, life, love... They always end with the one thing I know will never truly happen- making love to my older sister. Now if only someone could tell that to my penis. (haha)
9:37. School has always been a drag. Everyone is so caught up in meaningless things like who got caught with weed, or who's dating who, what's latest party everyone going to- a chain sequence of things we'll forget by college.
College. It's a place of new identity: where no one knows you, and you don't know them. They're way too busy to want to figure out your entire life story. Yeah, I'm going to college. Preferably, the same one Ange is going to. Maybe, just maybe my identity change will make it okay to want her- to have her, really. I might even change my name from Cenor to just "Scene" or something of the like. Even a name like "Tom" would suffice. I can meet a guy and change who I am completely, even my background. I'd go through all the trouble just to be with her.
Noon. I just got a text from her. She wants to take me some lunch before heading back to class. Somehow, I can't seem to tear this smile off my face. I rush to stuff my backpack in my locker, and run over to the parking lot to meet with her. She really is the only one who gets me. There she is, pulling up in that black focus almost as big as mine. She stops right next to me and opens the passenger door. "Get in!" She roughly whispers from what I suppose is excitement. A devilish smirk now sits on my face as I do what she says and we ride off before anyone notices I'm even gone. As promised, my lunch was in a Dairy Queen bag. I pulled out the chili dog and indulged myself in the cheesy delight. My favorite.
"How was school?" She asked, facing the road.
"Ommfehe, sehhe" (Okay, I guess) I let out as I savored every bite of my meal. I gulped the last bite, and washed down what was left with a Styrofoam cup of iced tea.
"What about you? Are you skipping class today?" I asked curiously.
She didn't answer and kept her eyes on the road. I didn't insist to know either; it was none of my business. Instead, I turned on the radio and let the music fill in the silence.
4:19. We've been driving for hours, but have finally stopped at the beach. The car has sat in the parking for hours. Ange keeps looking out to clear blue-green waters. Finally, she turns to me with a gentle smile and says "Let's do something crazy."
"Crazy, like what?" I asked, a bit frightened. She's never been this strange before.
"Let's pretend to be different people. I'm not Ange, you're not Cenor." She explains with enthusiasm.
"Uh, okay. Then who are we?" I'm rather confused by this sudden change.
"We're, We're a couple from California." She says, obviously having put a lot of thought into it. She has always wanted to go there, the promise land, she calls it.
"O-okay." I go along with it. Still unsure about the situation.
Right then and there, she kisses me. Not the kiss you give to your aunt, either. It was deep, and hit me right at the core. Had she figured it out? I wondered.
We got out of the car, hand in hand, and had our first date and only date.

If you're reading this now, from my probably barely functional phone, I swear she did it because she loved me. Life isn't always a Disney movie.
