Be it the jam-packed stands at soccer game, or a fun barbecue party, a hamburger makes for the convenient and yummy snack on the go. The name ‘Hamburger’ comes from the place Hamburg in Germany since the Germans often name their local traditional snacks after their place of origin. Although the name suggests the presence of ham, hamburgers can be made using grilled patties of different types of ground meat- be it beef, chicken, pork or eve turkey. For the vegetarians, there is always the option of a vegetarian-burger that is devoid of meat.

If you are tired of the run-of-the mill hamburgers at the burger joints, here are some exciting hamburger recipes to spice up a special Sunday brunch, a boring lunch at the office, or to lighten up your kids’ stay-over party. Try out some of these lip-smacking hamburger recipes and be ready for some great compliments coming your way.

Spicy Jalapeño Hamburger

The spicy peppers, and the tangy tomato blend in to give you a spicy and tangy hamburger, with a strong dash of, garlic, cilantro and Cajun seasoning that will be a guaranteed treat for your taste buds.

The Ingredients:
  • Lean ground beef - 1 Pound
  • Jalapeño Peppers( seeded and minced) – 4
  • Minced Garlic – 3 Cloves
  • Tomato Puree - 3 tablespoons
  • Cilantro – 1 Teaspoon
  • Cajun Seasoning - 4 tablespoons
  • Sliced Bun
  • Lettuce
Preparation
Mix the beef, jalapeños, garlic, tomato paste and cilantro in a bowl. Using the mixture make six patties. The patties should not be too thin or too thick. Once you have made the patties, sprinkle them with Cajun seasoning according to your taste. Grill the patties for 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Once the patty is ready, layer the buns with some mustard/ketchup according to your taste. Place the patty on the bun, and top it with a cheese slice or grated cheese. Now add some fresh lettuce and place the top portion of the sliced bun above it.

Tangy Chicken Hamburger

The creamy mustard blends in with the lemon zest, hot chilly, peppers and onion and the irresistibly soft and crunchy chicken patty that makes for a mouth-watering snack.

Ingredients
  • Ground Chicken – 1 pound
  • Finely chopped Onion – ½ Onion
  • Chopped green chilly – 1
  • Finely chopped Red Peppers – 1
  • Mustard – 1 ½ Tablespoon
  • A dash of lemon juice
  • Sprinkle of freshly ground pepper
  • Lettuce
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh bread crumbs
  • Whisked Egg – 1
  • Chicken stock– 1 quarter
Preparation

Mix the ground chicken, the onion, chilly and the red peppers. Once you have mixed the ingredients thoroughly, make six round and flat patties. Sprinkle fresh ground pepper on the patties and roll the patties in breadcrumbs before you grill them. Cook for 4-5 minutes on both sides on low heat. Once grilled, place the patty on the sliced bun and squeeze some fresh lemon juice on it. Place some fresh green lettuce leaves and place the other bun slice on top.

Vegetarian Delight Hamburger

Yes, you can actually have a vegetable hamburger; all you have to do is replace the meat with some yummy veggies. The crunchy potatoes mixed with peas, beans, onions and spicy bell peppers, with a dash of hot chilies and tangy tomatoes make for an appetizing burger, which is a vegetarian’s delight.

Ingredients:
  • Baked Potatoes- 4 to 5
  • Baked Beans – 1 cup
  • Finely Chopped Bell Peppers – ½ Cup
  • Tomato Puree
  • Finely Chopped Onions – ½ Onion
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Lettuce
  • Sliced Bun
  • Cheese
Preparation

Mash the potatoes and mix the beans, peppers, onion and chilies to form a well-grounded mixture. Make flat round patties and roll them in the breadcrumbs. Grill the patty for four to five minutes on each side. Once the patty is ready, spread some mustard /ketchup on the sliced bun and then place the patty on the bun. Top it with cheese and lettuce and close it with the other bun slice. Indulge in a delicious vegetarian hamburger.
