Half-Breed - Chapter 7

Things are going to start changing for Kimberley.
I looked at the mark on my chest before pulling my t-shirt over my head; Damon had explained what the mark meant when I woke up that next morning, it came as a shock at first but now every time I look at it, it worked as a reminded for my love for Damon and his love for me.

I did not see Damon for the rest of the weekend, he had some ''teacher'' things to do but I felt him through the bond. I spent the rest of the weekend unpacking the rest of the remaining boxes in my room while trying to do the homework I missed during the first part of the semester. It was harder than I thought it would be but I got everything finished before the clock stroke 12 on Sunday night.

I felt tired as I grabbed my bag and went to my first period. My head was swimming with thoughts of Damon and I could feel that something was bothering him. I was trying to place the feeling when I accidentally ran into someone. I quickly picked up my bag I had dropped and turned to apologize to who ever I had almost knocked over.

The girl was long and thin, her fire red hair hung just above her shoulders and the freckles that marked the bridge of her nose seemed to complement her green eyes.

She stood taller than me so I had to look up to greet her. I automatically stretched my hand out towards her. She laughed before taking hold of my hand.

''Rebecca Field, you must be the new kid''

''Kimberley'' I smiled and let go of her hand bending down to help her pick up the things she dropped. I noticed that amongst the bunch of papers a worn out biology book stood out and my mood instantly lifted, that was my first period.

''Its nice too meet you Kimberley''

I stood up straight ad gave her the rest of her stuff before she offered to walk me to class.

Rebecca or Becky as she kept reminding me was a grade higher than me even though we shared some classes together like biology and history and has been going to school here since she was 12. We instantly clicked. Instead of sitting in the back like I did the first day here, I sat next to Becky. The time flew by fast and my day seemed to get brighter. Everywhere people where smiling and waving hello to me as I past, some faces I recognized and tried to meet their warm greetings with my own.

After having history together me and Becky went to lunch, the hall was really busy; we grabbed our trays and stood in the cafeteria line. I loaded my plate with spaghetti while Becky got a greasy looking hamburger.

We walked over to a table that already had some kids sitting there. Becky sat down next to one of them and motioned for me to do the same. Nervously I placed my tray down on the table and sat.

''Everyone, this is Kimberley Winters, the new kid'' Becky announced smiling slightly at the words ''new kid''. Everyone stared at me for a moment before slowly saying hi.

Becky took a bite out of her hamburger before she went one.

''Kimberley, this is Clark Mills'' she pointed to the only guy at the table, he had blond shaggy hair and deep brown eyes. I smiled at him and said hi, ''watch out for him, he's a total smartass and also my guy''. Becky had a smile on her face when she looked Clark and he returned a look of her own. I quickly looked away, seeing that made me miss Damon more.

Becky pointed to the next kid at the table.

''Alice Prince'', I looked at the girl she was pointing at, this one had long brown curly hair that reached her shoulders, her eyes were also brown but not as dark as Clarks. She looked up from the book she was reading (I notice it was a book about philosophy's) and greeted me again, giving me a warm smile before returned to her book.

I automatically turned my gaze to the next person at the table and waited for Becky to introduce her.

The girl was covered in piercings, her nose, tongue, eyebrow, both her cheeks and probably six on each of her ears there was some kind of piercing. She had short black hair that stood up in a messy way. She looked like she might be Goth or Emo, but depending on the amount of eyeliner she was wearing I decided that she had to be Goth.

She didn't wait for Becky to introduce her instead she extended her hand towards me and I instantly liked her.

She grabbed a hold of my hand. '' Tyra Ross'' she announced before letting go of my hand, I noticed that her nails were painted black and on some of them skull nail art was placed.

''Its nice to meet you'' I replied giving her a warm smile.

''And this is Jane Montgomery, my half sister'' Becky continued pointing at the girl that sat next to her and I could instantly see small resemblances between the two. Jane did not have red hair like Rebecca but instead had dark brown hair that hung past her shoulders and as soon as the light caught it a red shine appeared, they had the same green eyes and the freckles that covered her nose, all in all she was really pretty.

I greeted her before taking a big bite out of my food.

Rebecca smiled at me and then at the rest of the group.

''So that's everyone, were one big dysfunctional family'' she said proudly before laughing out load. Everyone instantly agreed with her and high fived each other in congratulations I even received a few.

The lunch went by fast but I learned a lot in that short time.

Rebecca and Jane were ''half sisters'' as they called it, they shared the same mother but not the same fathers, Rebecca didn't even know hers. Rebecca and Clark had been dating for almost a year now and it is still going strong, they were introduced by Tyra which was Alice's best friend (I found this a bit odd? they were so different from each other, I guess opposites do attract)

We parted after lunch, going our own way.

I didn't have English today so I didn't see Damon, again. I felt sort of empty inside and I found myself constantly touching the mark on my chest, it made me feel closer to him. Time past by and I found myself in my room alone and bored. Finally I could not take it anymore and put on a sweat pants and a t-shirt and went walking, half way down the stairs I remember that there was a music room and quickly change direction in search of it.

It was not hard to find, the door had a big sign that said, ''Music room''. I closed the distance to the door and pulled down the handle hoping that it was not locked. The door gave away easily and swung open, it was dark inside and I fumbled against the wall to find the switch, I found it at last. The room was stocked with all kinds of instruments but I hardly noticed those, my eyes had settled on the midnight black grand piano that stood on a little platform. Even though it was black, to me it shone like a bright light. My feet dragged me to the piano and gently as if I were scared it would break I sat down on the stool. My hands rested on the piano keys and I could feel my spirit lift, I let out a big breath before my fingers floated over the keys with ease, Mozart's Alla Torca started filling my ears.

I had an ear for music and had taught myself how to play, seeing as I could not read the notes. It felt good playing again. I got lost in the music I played. My fingers moved over the keys not making one mistake, I closed my eyes and just listened. The song was just drifting to the end, my fingers ready to play the end when the feeling hit me.

It was fear; it coursed through my body but not as my own. It was someone else's fear I was feeling.

Damon's!
