Haiti

Republic of Haiti is a country on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, the Western Hemisphere's second-oldest independent country, (after the U.S.) and the world's oldest black republic. Haiti is roughly the size of Maryland. Port-au-Prince is the capital and the largest city. Haiti is mountainous, basically two peninsulas, separated by valleys and plains. The climate is tropical, with little variation in seasons. The land has mostly been deforested, but some mahogany, cedar, and coconut palms, avocado, orange, and mango trees still stand. Haiti also contains two large inhabited islands, Tortuga, off the northern coast, and Gonoove, lies in the gulf.
