Haircut Ideas for Men and Women
Nervous about your next haircut? Here are some tips about choosing haircuts and haircut ideas for men and women.
Talk to your stylist
Men and women, listen up, it is best that you talk to your stylist before they start with the scissors and combs. Have a discussion of what you want, what look you are trying to get and what you are comfortable with. The stylist will then put forth suggestions to you and you can work around or with those. If you don’t think you can convey your thoughts to your hairstylist, then it is best to carry a picture of the haircut you want from a magazine or online. And if you are unsure of what you want, the stylist will have books and files filled with their works and cuts that will suit you. Do not give vague statements to your stylist like cut off 2 inches or just trim it, because the stylist will have a different perception.
When you do not know what you want
Chances are that you do not know what you want when you walk into a hair salon, and I am not just talking about women, but even men are unsure of what haircut they want. Do not let the hair stylist decide what to do, instead have a discussion and discuss various options. The hairstylist may be one who is funky and creative, where as you are the serious type who doesn’t like too much change, at the end of the haircut appointment you do not want to walk out wishing you had a paper sack on your head.
Determine you face shape
Most haircuts work according to face shapes, and the easiest way to know your face shape is to measure your shape from different places. Measure it across the widest part of your forehead, across your cheeks, around the jaw line and from the top of your hairline to the tip of the chin. This will determine whether your face is round, oval, long, heart shaped, square or diamond shaped. After you have determined you face shape you need to decide whether you want to camouflage it, enhance it or leave it be.
Haircuts for men and women according to face shape
- Short or cropped haircuts will help to elongate a short neck and the same goes with long hair that can be piled up into a ponytail or classy chignon.
- If you have a double chin or round face, then hair left loose around the face will help camouflage this.
- If you have a well-shaped neck, delicate features or an oval shape, you should have a haircut that allows this features to be enhanced rather than covered up.
- Layers help to soften sharp features, this works well for both men and women.
- If you have a round face then a short and wispy haircut will work best for you, as this helps in framing the face.
- For those men and women with a square face, a short spiked haircut looks the best.
