Oil has been in use as a beauty product since ages in almost all Asian countries. People have commonly used different types of oils like the coconut oil, almond oil, jasmine oil, mustard oil, Asian olive oil, etc. These oils have not been proved to be useful scientifically. In fact not enough studies have been made yet to substantiate this theory.
In Asian subcontinent oil is regular inclusion for all types of beauty treatments. This happens to be more because of the climate, which is hot, humid or dry and sultry. Harsh sunrays can tend to make hair dry and brittle. Sun rays can also gray hair earlier than usual.
Oil is a natural and most easily available therapy. Ayurveda promoted use of oil. Though not yet proved there are certain logical deductions about how oil can prove useful for hair:
Oil like the coconut oil have antifungal qualities which can protect hair against fungal growth so common in hot regions of the world.
Oil smooths hair. Smooth hair does not tangle as much as coarse dry hair. this can lead to lesser hair breakage.
Oil acts as a moisturizer, thereby reducing dryness and brittleness. This will lead to increase in elasticity and lesser hair breakage.
Though unproven slight massage to your scalp when applying oil can result into stimulation of hair growth and also mild strengthening! You can warm oil slightly and apply it to the roots so it reaches inside and ensures healthy hair from root to tip. You will find with regular use you can make your hair lustrous and beautiful.
Applying hair oil at night and washing it in the morning is the most commonly practiced method. You should however ensure that oil traces have removed. Amongst all types of oils used, coconut oil, almond oil and Indian olive oil (amla oil) are the most famous ones. Almond oil is very rich in vitamin E which promotes hair growth.
