Gun Rack Plans

Are you an ex armed forces guy or just a person who likes collecting firearms? Is it a Colt or a Mauser for you? Either ways, you will need to keep the firearms safely and out of the reach of kids. Just keeping them like that in your house could be risky, especially with kids around. Even if kids are not around, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to keep your firearms on a rack, nice and snug, what do you think? Another great incentive to have these rifles and guns nicely tucked away in the rack is that in a rack you can easily flaunt your prized possessions!

Gun Rack Plans and Ideas

Lot of options await you when it comes to rack ideas and plans for firearms. You just need to be creative and see what is going to suit and fit the space in your house.

Woody Wood
Now, I don't need to tell you that when it comes to something like cupboards or racks and the like, good old wood is what we all look up to. Wood can be made to look as crude, or as elegant and rich as you want. One of the most common wood designs for a rack is that a couple of pieces of wood running up and down the curving or L-shaped pieces sticking out perpendicular to the wall for the butt and barrel of the gun.

Gunning with the Cabinets
If you are not sure of open wooden racks, what you can try is a gun cabinet having a built in rack. You can keep the firearms properly locked and avoid the risk of someone using it and the firearms gathering dust. These can be portable and available in metal too. The metal ones are good with display boards. However, along with taking up more space, these also limit your access to the gun or the rifles in case of emergency.

Stand and Shoot
Oh by this I don't mean that you shoot. I meant about the position we are in when we are standing - upright, isn't it? You can have upright rack plans. In such designs, the butt of the gun will be rested on the support at the bottom of the rack. In addition to this, there will be another support, with a slot for each gun around half way up the barrel of the gun.

Pegging the Guns
Pegboards is a good choice. A simple pegboard rack is inexpensive and some of the metal racks are durable as compared to wooden ones. The only thing is that for preventing scratches or avoiding damage to the gunmetal, the edges will have to be taped using a foam tape or padded using rubber.

Along with these, you can have horizontal gun racks which will help you keep the firearms carefully as well as use them as a display in the living room. You can get a number of plans for free too! In fact, using them you can even build your own rack! How cool would that be!
