Guaranteed Weight Loss: Wiggle Room (Rule #3 of 3)

A common sense approach to weight loss. When boldly jumping aboard a weight loss and body best food plan, give yourself flexibility.
If you’ve been trying to follow the first two rules in the 10+10 For Life food plan (Part I and Part II of this article), you’ve probably re-discovered one thing.

You like to eat what you like to eat when you like to eat it, like all the rest of us mere mortals!

The first two rules sound easy enough: Add and stop.

Rule #1: Add and fill up on 10 fresh fruits (you can repeat the same fruits) and 10 different vegetables a day. Eat fresh fruit all morning long, lots of large, 10-veggie salads for lunch (enough to fill you up), change-up with a veggie sandwich or soup. For dinner, eat in order of salad and veggies first, and very last, if you must, traditional favorites.

The point: fill up on the best-for-you foods first. Get full and satisfied and then….stop.

Rule #2: Stop eating when your brains says, "Whoa, Nellie…or Margaret or Sally or Bob!"

Fitting in a bunch more fruits and veggies can be quite the challenge when you’re not used to eating that way. And pushing food away – that’s tough too.

But hang in there – patience. Any change takes patience and persistence. Now you’re ready for Rule # 3 – it’ll make you giggle.

Okay – music please. It’s time to…wiggle.

Rule #3: Wiggle! (if you must) or the 80/20 rule

Wiggle? What the heck does wiggle mean?

When boldly jumping aboard a weight loss and body best food plan, give yourself flexibility – wiggle room – from the get-go. No point kidding yourself – you’re not going to give up your food fave forever so why go there. Think about it. Never ever ever eat chocolate (or whatever) again for the rest of your life? I don’t think so.

Instead, feel okay about wiggling 20% of the time. That means eat the best-for-you foods 80% of the time and the rest of the time, eat what you want.

So when your life is routine at home or at work, plan ahead and fill up on whole, fresh fruits and vegetables, along with sprouts, whole grains and beans, raw nuts and seeds, and homemade fruit and vegetable juices.

For special occasions, like a holiday or birthday, a Sunday brunch with your family, or a get together with friends, relax and enjoy those celebration feasts.

Be vigilant. It’s easy for those bad-for-you foods to creep in to that sacred 80% good guy territory and sabotage your well-meaning weight loss intentions. Don’t do that to yourself.

So those are the 10+10 rules. They kind of sound like a fun dance:

Just Add, Stop, and Wiggle…to wiggle and giggle your way into those cute pants. And my forthcoming, weight loss, body best book, "Getting Into Your Pants," will walk you through these rules and so much more.

Keep playing with wrapping your day around lots of fruits and vegetables and remember – the only slip up is to give up.

So Add, Stop, and Wiggle and take care of the only house you live in for life – your body. You are so worth it.
