Grinding Coffee

The first step of making a cup of coffee is grinding the beans.
The best part of most people’s day is when they wake up in the morning to a fresh cup of coffee. This does not mean that your day does not get better, but it is just so refreshing to have a warm hot cup of your favorite coffee to get you going in the morning. No matter how grumpy you wake up, things just seem to change once you have that first cup of coffee in the morning. If you are one that likes to make their coffee in the morning then your day may start with having to grind the coffee before brewing. Grinding coffee is often over looked, but might just be the most important part of the coffee experience. Proper grinding can add flavor and freshness to your next cup of coffee. This article is to help you understand how to grind your coffee beans.

You have to understand why properly grinding your coffee beans can increase flavor and richness of your coffee. Most people go to the store or local coffee shop and buy their favorite coffee in the form of coffee beans. Then they do the convenient thing of having the entire bag of coffee beans go through the grinding process all at once. This makes it easier for them so when they are ready to use the coffee all they have to do is scoop and brew. Well this may be the easy way, but it also causes the coffee to lose freshness by the day.

In order to insure the freshest cup of coffee possible you will want to grind your coffee just before brewing. So instead of grinding your entire bag of coffee beans, only grind the amount which you will use for brewing. Store the rest of the beans in an air tight container in a cool dark place.

Now that you have a decent little over view of why grinding coffee may just be the most important part of the coffee experience you can move on to what type of grinder fits you best.

There are three main types of coffee grinders. There is the manual coffee grinder, burr coffee grinder and then there is the blade coffee grinder. You also have the coffee grinder that comes with a coffee maker, some what of an all in one model.

Each coffee grinder does a great job grinding coffee, but some are better than others, and maybe more convenient that others. The most popular form of coffee grinder is the burr coffee grinder, because of its even grind and the fact that it does not over heat the beans too much.

Once you have chosen a coffee grinder that fits your needs best you can then move on to the grinding process. Properly grinding the coffee and choosing the coarseness of the grind is very important. For traditional black coffee you will want a coarser grind as opposed to an espresso drink, which requires a very fine grind. Trying to master the coarseness of the grind takes time to learn.

These tips above should help you understand why grinding coffee the right way can make a world of difference in your next cup of java.
