Greg Norman and Chris Evert Announce Separation

All-star sports couple Greg Norman and Chris Evert announced over the weekend that they are separating.
Celebrity sports couple Chris Evert and Greg Norman, married just 15 months ago, announced over the weekend that they have separated. The announcement came just a few days before Norman was set to captain the International team at the Presidents Cup, which is to be held in San Francisco. The event, because it typically sees the golfers’ wives take on a notable role, may have been the reason for the Friday announcement. The couple noted in a statement, "We will remain friends and supportive of one another’s family." They requested privacy for themselves and members of their families, but did not definitively note that they would divorce.

Norman will face a press conference tomorrow morning for the Presidents Cup, and is sure to be asked about his marital situation there. Between Evert and Norman, there have been a total of four marriages. Evert was married twice before wedding Norman, including a marriage to Olympic skier Andy Mill, with whom she has three children. She divorced Mill in 2006. Norman was married to Laura Andrassy, and went through a brutal divorce with her that ended with his ex-wife receiving over $100 million. Norman has two children with Andrassy.

Robert Allenby, another Australian who is part of the International team said of Norman’s situation, "I don’t’ think it will be a distraction. That’s just not the way Norman is. He’s normally very private with his life. I know Norman. Next week his whole focus will be purely on what we have to do as a team and how we have to come together. He’ll be right behind us 110 percent."
