What Causes Green Urine?

In episodes of urinary tract infection because of Pseudomonas bacteria, urine color changes to green. If there is bleeding in the urinary tract, it can also change the color of urine to green.

Moreover, there are a number of medicines like amitriptyline, doxorubicin and indomethacin that may cause green urine. Another drug called propofol can also change the color of urine to cloudy or green depending on the dosage. In children, urine may turn green if there is excess consumption of food which is green in color.

An antibiotic, Rinsapin, is also responsible for excreting green/blue urine. Other than that there are several other medications which uses green dye, ingestion of these can make your urine green. If there is infection of the urinary tract, pus would form which, when it comes out may also cause your urine to become green.

Green Urine: Medication

There is no medication as such to treat green urine, as excretion of green pigment in urine is not a medical condition or a disease but a change in your dietary pattern or intake of other medications which contain green pigments. So you need to see to it that you follow the right dietary pattern. Even after consuming a healthy diet, you don't find any change in the color of your urine, and if you are still consuming asparagus, try to stop consuming it. You may find a change in the color of your urine. Moreover, make sure that you consume a lot of water every day, especially during summers as your body tends to get dehydrated very soon.

Many a time, it may so happen that green pigments get accumulated in your body which are excreted along with urine. But, due to lack of water in the body they don't get dissolved and as a result they are excreted as they are. Even after taking all these measures if, you still don't find any change in urine color it's always better to consult your physician.
