However, why not look at some common green tea benefits and then proceed to the focus of our discussion! Green tea, if consumed in sufficient and prescribed quantities, can do wonders to your health. If complemented with regular exercises and a good nutrition plan, it can benefit you in various ways. Green tea is beneficial for people who are suffering from problems such as rise in cholesterol levels. It actually lowers down high cholesterol levels and thus helps in maintaining a healthy heart. Green tea is also good for the immune system, as it has the ability to combat against viral and bacterial infections. Moreover, the presence of polyphenol chemicals in green tea, has proved to be useful to treat rheumatoid arthritis. This is because, polyphenol chemicals act as oxidants and prevent oxidative stress.
Weight Loss Benefits from Green Tea
- The first reason for the close association of green tea and weigh loss is the presence of catechin polyphenols. The food we eat, is converted in triglyceride, into the small intestine and the liver. This triglyceride is further transported to the bloodstream to supply energy to various tissues of our body. Sufficient amounts of triglyceride are very much helpful (rather necessary) for a continuous energy supply. But, excess quantities of triglyceride get converted into fat, which then accumulate into various parts of our body. Catechin polyphenols which were mentioned earlier, now play an important role by activating enzymes that dissolve the excess amount of triglyceride, thus controlling its over production, and preventing obesity.
- After fat burning, green tea is also beneficial for increasing the metabolic process. Again, it is the catechin polyphenols that have an important part to play in it! A part of these (catechin polyphenols) is the epigallocatechin gallate, which helps in increasing the metabolic rate. Epigallocatechin gallate along with caffeine, poses a positive effect on the central nervous system, thereby transporting the excess body fat to the blood stream and convert it into energy. This process is referred to as thermogenesis, which further results in eliminating excess fat and increase the energy levels of our body. Energy thus generated can be utilized in exercising more.
