Greek God Uranus

Ancient and modern scholars have studied Greek mythology for years. Greek mythology deals with the origins and many other features of the lives of various Greek gods and goddesses. These are inclusive of many other mythological creatures. In ancient Greece, mythology was always considered as a part of Greek history. Certain myths were used to explain in detail about various things associated with this culture.

In Greek mythology, Uranus represents the personification of the sky. He is known as the God of the sky. Greek God Uranus is also known as Ouranos. (Uranus is the Latinized form.) Greek God Uranus is considered to be responsible for the sunshine as well as the rain. This God of heaven is the husband of Gaia according to the Greek mythology. Gaia is a Greek Goddess who is revered as a Mother Goddess and represents Earth. Both Uranus and Gaia are ancestors of many other Greek Gods.

As per the creation myth, Uranus used to meet Gaia every night. However, Greed God Uranus was not happy with the children he had with Gaia. This resulted in the imprisonment of Tartarus. Tartarus was the youngest child and was imprisoned deep inside the Earth. This was when Gaia was deeply hurt. Gaia then wanted one of her sons to castrate Uranus. Cronus, the youngest and the leader of the Titans (powerful deities that ruled during the Golden Age) then decided to overthrow his father. It was thus Cronus (also referred to as Kronus), who ambushed his father and castrated him with a flint-bladed sickle given by Gaia. The testicles were thrown into the sea. The myth further reveals it was Aphrodite, who emerged from the sea. Aphrodite is the Greek Goddess of beauty and love. Since this time, the sky never covered the Earth; the sky thus remained in its place. The seventh planet, Uranus is named after Greek God Uranus.
