Grand River Bass Fishing 1 Hour West of Toronto... Try It
Where else can you experience a day of catching smallmouth bass on the Grand River and still be in your own bed at night?

Grand River Rafting float trips allow the customer to choose their own starting time for a drift boat trip down the Grand. These smallmouth bass fishing trips are 5 hours long and travel through an amazing scenery of landscape wilderness. It is hard to believe that just beyond the horizon is a world of cities and highways.

The upper part of the Grand River above Brantford is a totally different from Brantford-Lake Erie section. This is a river of clarity with swifts and pools that invite any fisherman to try his hand. The bottom is stoney and clear with logs and stone shelfs of percolating springs along the bank... an excellent place to drop a fly or lure.

The smallmouth populations are quite aggressive and plentiful with bass ranging up to 5lbs… and 1-2 "pounders" quite common. There is some pike, pickerel and steelhead depending on the season and section…but "smallies" dominate the river.

This Grand River is not only great for the avid fisherman, but a "hay-day" for kids to fish and catch fish. To get 40 to 50 bass between two people on an evening trip is very possible. And watching a child hook into a lunker carp with their "Winnie the Pooh" rods always brings a smile and a lifetime story. Often after children have brought in a bygone… they don’t want to fish…just talk about the experience of the catch!

Grand River Rafting rafting offers four different bass fishing trips in the valley. Three on the Grand River and one on the Nith River. Their website includes fishing route maps to help you in planning one day or multi day trips. Drifts can be selected from Glen Morris to Paris (Oneida Run) which is a catch & keep section... and so is their Brant Park to Cockshutt Bridge drift (Mohawk Run).

There are drifts on the Exceptional Waters section from Paris to Brant Park for the fly fisherman which is barbless, baitless, catch & release. Which can end at campsites below Whitemans Creek or the Brant Conservation Area.

Depending on flow rates Grand River Rafting will offer float trips on the Nith... but this is a touch & go decision because of inconsistent flow rates for depth. But when on this river, there is some excellent bass fishing opportunities.

This company is the only company that actually owns 1 km of shoreline along the river and offers accommodations in the area or secluded tenting sites where you can camp and shore wade the river along the famous"Trout Alley" below Whitemans Creek.

The campsites have drinking water, help yourself firewood, vehicle access and outhouse. Rental camping equipment is available which can be entirely setup before arrival. The sites are located right on the river with a very large population of deer and turkeys in the area.

The owners/guides of the Grand River Rafting Company grew up in this valley and may not know all their flies and lures… but what they do know is where the fish are. They also teach on the native history wildlife and fauna of the valley as you float down the Grand.. and offer other experiences such as drinking from springs… stopping for a swim and a Tripper Lunch along the Grand. They also offer other fishing trips for fall & spring steelhead.

If looking for a short overnight getaway or one day nearby bass trip… the Grand River is definitely a fishing experience to take a hard look at.
