What is Google Traffic Estimator
For what purpose, is the Google Traffic Estimator tool used? How can you use it to choose the right keywords for advertisements? Read to find all the answers.

What is the Google Traffic Estimator Tool?
Most of Google's revenue is generated through its Google Adsense program, that places relevant ads on websites submitted to it. The Google AdWords program helps businesses put up advertisements by relevance on these websites. Advertisers must bid on 'keywords', for their ads to be placed in relation to specific ones. These ads may appear on websites that have content related to the chosen keyword or they are placed around Google search results related to it.
With an effort to provide advertisers and websites, with web traffic data, Google has provided its Keywords tool and Traffic Estimator, which provides relevant data about keywords that are being searched worldwide on its search engine interface.
The estimator, as a part of the AdWords online help, provides details about global and local (US) traffic details related to any keyword which an advertiser may be interested in. It also provides information about the average CPC (cost per click) in dollars, number of daily clicks for ads related to the keyword and the estimated daily cost.
The accuracy of the tool has been under the scanner for quite a while now. It provides approximate data which is aimed at giving you a rough idea of what revenue potential a certain keyword has, according to current search engine traffic results. The key fact to note is that the information is approximate and should not be taken to be exact.
How to Use it?
Using the estimator is quite simple. It is especially designed for advertisers. Visit the traffic search page and enter the keyword whose revenue potential you want to know about. To filter the relevant data, you can put in the exact maximum CPC (cost per click) and your daily budget spending limit.
Once you enter this information, enter a captcha code provided below and hit enter, Google will display the local and global search related to that keyword, estimated ad position, estimated daily clicks (to give you an idea about conversion rate), average CPC and of course the estimated cost that the keyword ad would cost you.
So an advertiser can get an idea about what keywords to target through their ad campaign using this tool. You can compare more than one keywords according to their revenue potential, by entering more keywords in the search box and sorting them in ascending or descending order by any comparison criteria. It should be noted that you can no longer use state search filter as it has been removed. However, you can filter results country and language wise.
Being the primary search engine tool worldwide, Google has knowledge of what people are searching and it uses this data to provide keyword traffic trends through the traffic estimator and Google Adwords tool. For search engine optimizers who work to drive traffic towards their websites, the estimator provides real data which they can count on.
