Gone
My best friend that moved because of the war in Iraq…
Tears hit the carpet as I walked out the door,
Cause then I realized I wouldn’t see you anymore,
I remember calling you little man and I was big man,
I remember making funny voices by talking into the fan,
I taught you so much stuff your 2nd words were hey dude,
I remember eating dinner and watching you throw you food,
I remember the day I heard you had to move away,
That was the day I got no sleep and cried all day,
I remember he asked me why I was crying,
I couldn’t fight the tears but I was trying,
This little kid meant the world to me,
He was my best friend even though he was only three,
I wouldn’t call him a friend, he was more of a brother,
He can’t be replaced though, there is no other,
I remember the last thing you said to me,
"I will call you big man when we play",
That’s when my eyes watered and I couldn’t see,
And my voice started to crack when I tried to say,
I don’t think we will play anymore little man,
So I said I love you and went to the door and ran,
He just smiled and I couldn’t take any more,
He didn’t have a clue, then I slammed the door,
One thing I never taught you was how to say goodbye,
Then the day when I said it I thought I would die,
The day you left, tears are what I couldn’t stop making,
So when I got home I just screamed I love you Clayton.
Cause then I realized I wouldn’t see you anymore,
I remember calling you little man and I was big man,
I remember making funny voices by talking into the fan,
I taught you so much stuff your 2nd words were hey dude,
