Golf Swing Drills

Swing drills help a golfer to improve his swings and the general quality of play. Read on to know more.
No one can challenge the finesse and expertise with which Tiger Woods goes about his golf swings. However, it is another story that the skill was not acquired overnight. It took a lot of slogging and hard work on his part and those who are almost in the same league as Woods to reach where they are. Swing drills are part of the routine.

Best Swing Drills

Eyes Closed
The focus in this drill is visualization and through that improving the balance during the swing. Thus, to begin with closing your eyes in a golf stance. Then, go ahead with the golf swing, stopping at the top of the back swing and then concentrating on feeling and getting the weight on the inner part of the back foot. Follow that by finishing the swing, again halting on top of back swing, with a focus on having the weight on the back foot's inner part. Doing this drill several times will help an amateur golfer to gauge where exactly is the balance perfect. Another advantage of this drill is that a player can relax and beat the stress before a golf round.

Get that Straight
This drill is meant to solve alignment problems, if any, with regards to a swing. For this drill, a player lays 2 clubs on the green. They have to be 6 inches apart and parallel to each other. Follow this by putting the ball to check if the stroke is aligned at the impact. In addition to that, also see if it is steady on the back and forward stroke.

Distancing the Ball
Just as close shots are important, swings to take the ball a long distance have to be in the arsenal of a golfer. The drill to be explained now focuses exactly on that. The aim is to generate clubhead speed, so as to increase the distance the ball travels. For that purpose, start off with holding the club upside down and swinging the handle. Getting the feel of swooshing the club as you swing it fast. After getting the hang of this, get the club in the normal position. Do the same thing as you did earlier while trying to maintain the same feel. This will help add those few extra yards to your swing.

Need for Speed
The previous drill was about adding those extra yards to the swing. This will help you increase the speed of the swing. To do this, place 5 golf tees on the ground, with 5 inches space between them. After that hit each of the balls you have quickly, while trying to maintain the balance so that the ball is struck directly.

Slow Motion
Have 10 to 15 golf balls ready for the tee up and for the full golf swing. Now swing with slow motion with every ball. Ideally, the golf balls should go ahead around 15 meters. Once you are comfortable with this, for every 10 balls, purposely and consciously increase the rotation of the body by 10%.

Finally, avoid swinging too fast, be it an actual game or drill. Rhythm and smoothness are more important. Along with all this, if you want to get a grip of the golf grips, talk to a golf player better than you or having more experience than you! All the best!
