Golf in Bournemouth - Ideal or Not?

Many golfers love to play on different courses, and Bournemouth is a beautiful place, but is it ideal for playing golf?
Bournemouth has an array of things going for it, not to mention its seven miles of sandy beaches, its vast amount of activities available round the clock, and it’s milder than average climate. But…if you aren’t into the sunbathing and the several activities Bournemouth has to offer, there are great options when it comes to golf courses. With over 17 fantastic courses available and each with their own unique challenge, you’re not short of options.

Golf in Bournemouth has the great advantage of being on the coast and provides breathtaking scenery to go with its very challenging courses. There’s everything for beginner golfers, all the way to the most skilled players.

Arguably the best golf course in Bournemouth is Queens Park golf club. The pine trees that hug the edges of the fairways provide the most challenging aspects of the course, but in contrast, they also provide the Queens Park course with its beauty and charm.

Past great players such as Bobby Locke and Henry Cotton have graced the course, but in the modern era, the great Severiano Ballesteros also played a few times here too. In the 1970’s it was used as a regular spot on the European Tour and even further back is was used in past great tournaments such as the Daily Mail Golf Tournament in 1939.

If playing in intimate surroundings isn’t the thing for you, there are many links golf courses around the town. The course at Ferndown is a particular highlight of the links courses available. With its views across to the Isle of Wight, and its picturesque flat woodland, it truly is one of the best links courses around the south coast of England.

Another course you may like is in the Poole area of Bournemouth is Meyrick. The Meyrick course is one of the best municipal courses in the area, and having been founded in 1890 it is also one of the oldest too.

A really short drive from Bournemouth is the area of Canford Manga. There are three courses here, the Riverside, Parkland, and the Knighton. Each offers a vast amount of different challenges. Taking into account its location, picturesque scenery, the green fees are relatively affordable compared to other courses.
