Golden Globe Awards: Avatar on Top
Sci-fi epic Avatar was named as the best film drama at the Golden Globe Awards 2010.

Avatar, the blockbuster sci-fi epic, won the award for the best film drama. The best actress awards went to Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep. Sandra Bullock won the prize for her role in The Blind Side. Meryl Streep took home her prize for her role as a TV chef in Julia & Julia. Jeff Bridges and Robert Downey Jr walked away with the best actors awards. Jeff Bridges was the best dramatic actor, and Robert Downey Jr took the comedy prize for his title role in Sherlock Holmes. James Cameron bagged the best director award. He had previously got a Golden Globe for Titanic, a movie that went on to win 11 Oscar Awards in the year 1998. He added, "This is the best job in the world. What we do is make entertainment for a global audience." Meryl Streep also said about her award, "In my long career I've played so many extraordinary women I'm being mistaken for one." Jeff Bridges said, "You're really screwing up my under appreciated status here." If you start playing violins I will tear this place apart."
The Hangover, was awarded the prize for the best musical or comedy. Comedian and talk show host Mo'Nique was named best supporting actress for her role in Precious. Christoph Waltz was the winner of the best supporting actor prize. He received the award for his part in Inglourious Basterds. Director Martin Scorsese was presented with a special award for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment world.
Now while the winners celebrate their victories, all eyes and focus will slowly shift onto the Academy Awards.
