Everyone lives such a fast paced hectic life that it is hard to believe our ancestors lived at a different speed and had different priorities. Every once and a while it is nice to step back and see how people once lived. You can easily do this in Rockome, Illinois. This area was purchased in 2005, but it really has not changed very much. It used to be an Amish village, but it no longer is. Today it is a village set in the 1940s, which allows tourists to literally take a step back in time and see what life was like during the 1940s. There really is something for everyone in this village, regardless of what you like to do. You can enjoy some shopping as well as outstanding dining. There are many other activities to get involved in as well. You will certainly want to enjoy a meal at Days Gone By where you will enjoy great food, service and entertainment. You will also find that shopping is excellent. Prepare to find things like wine and food made locally, organic and natural foods, and even furniture from the old days. The stores are easy to spot with names like Harvest Time and Five and Dime.
You are likely to enjoy some of the demonstrations in candy making or gardening as well. There are tours that are wonderful for the entire family that focus on one room schoolhouses, and more. The village is open Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 am until 6 pm, it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
