Glue Mouse Traps

We all know that mice infestation can be harmful to humans. Apart from carrying and spreading diseases, mice can also cause damage to the household articles. These rodents may not appear before you, but, you can sense their presence with the help of signs like droppings, chewed paper and fabric. Once their presence in the house is detected, you will think of a method for mice extermination. While some people opt for keeping a cat in the house, others will be interested in traps and mice repellents. Mouse traps are commonly used to get rid of these rodents. There are many different types of mouse traps, that may either kill or trap mice. If you are not interested in killing mice, you can resort to live traps.

What is a Glue Mouse Trap

We all know that there are various kinds of mouse traps. While some traps kill the trapped mouse instantly, others may just prevent the trapped mouse from escaping. A glue trap consists of a sticky surface for the mouse to get stuck, till it is removed from the surface. In case of glue mouse traps, natural or synthetic adhesives are applied on flat surfaces like tray and cardboard. These sticky mouse traps can be used as such or along with mouse traps baits. If there is no bait, then also, mice that accidentally run over it will be trapped. However, baits can attract mice to the traps and so, these traps are mostly used with baits, like, food particles or extract provided by the manufacturers of these traps. Usually, bait is placed in the center of the sticky surface. If the manufacturer has added some scent to the glue, so as to attract mice, then, bait is not needed. Mice will get attracted to the scent or bait and get stuck to the sticky surface. It will remain stuck, till you remove it by pouring vegetable oil over the sticky surface. Glue mouse traps are found to be very effective and the adhesives used are also non-toxic. These traps are used for indoor rodent control, as the adhesive, if the trap is used outdoor, may get ineffective due to the dust and other such factors.

Sticky Mouse Traps - Humane or Inhumane

While glue mouse traps are used widely, animal activists and animal welfare organizations oppose the use of these traps alleging that using such traps are inhumane. According to some studies, animals trapped in glue traps suffer extreme stress. They struggle hard to free themselves from the glue and in this effort hurt themselves. They tend to bit off their limbs and other body parts due to frustration. Apart from that, they defecate and urinate frequently due to extreme fear and frustration. If these traps are not checked regularly, these animals get starved, suffocated and dehydrated and ultimately, die within three to four days. So, glue mouse traps are considered inhumane and is banned in many regions. In some countries, glue traps are allowed to use for agricultural purposes only. If you are not interested in using glue traps, you can choose any of the humane mouse traps that work.

In short, glue mouse traps are effective in trapping mice, but, are alleged to be inhumane. In some regions, these traps are banned. So, if these traps are allowed in your region, you may use them. In such cases, make sure to check these traps at regular intervals and if there are trapped mice, release them in the wild, as soon as possible, so as to avoid the above said torture. Otherwise, go for mouse traps that don't kill like the live traps.
