How to Glaze Kitchen Cabinets
Before glazing your kitchen cabinet, remove all the parts of the cabinet off the hinges and clean them properly. For cleaning kitchen cabinet hardware, you can use a mild soap or detergent. However, if your kitchen cabinet has been painted recently, you can skip the cleaning step.
Before painting kitchen cabinets, make sure that all these parts have been completely dried. Now mix the paint and the glazing liquid in a bowl by using a mixing stick. You can mix equal parts of paint and glaze if you want to give a medium glaze to the cabinet. However, you can change this proportion depending on the look you want to give. So, for a darker shade you can mix 3 parts of paint to 1 part of glaze, or 1 part of paint to 3 parts of glaze for a very light glaze. Whatever the proportion of paint and glaze you mix, remember to mix them thoroughly.
Once, both the glaze and paint are properly mixed, you can either use a rag or a sponge to apply it on the surface of your kitchen cabinet hardware. Dip the sponge or the rag in the mixture and rub it on the surface of the kitchen cabinet hardware. You can rub it either in a straight or a circular motion and both will give different looks to your kitchen cabinet. It is preferable to apply paint on a small area at a time, so that you can wipe it off easily before drying. Wipe it with a clean cloth, which will leave a light layer of glaze on the surface. Trying the glaze on a small area also has the advantage of wiping it off completely, if you do not like the look. Also, follow the instructions mentioned by the manufacturers of the product regarding how to apply the glaze.
Once the glazing is done completely, leave the kitchen cabinet hardware untouched to dry. They will usually take few hours (8 to 9 hours) to dry completely. The time required for drying is usually given on the label of the product. Reinstall all the kitchen cabinet hardware only when they dry out completely.
So, go ahead with glazing kitchen cabinets and give an amazing look to your kitchen. This is perhaps the easiest way to remodel your kitchen without spending a lot of money. Regular cleaning is important to keep the kitchen cabinets clean from dust and dirt, so that they can retain their glaze for a long time.
