Glasgow's West End - These Little Town Blues are no more
Something you should definitely read if you are going to move to or visit Glasgow's West End.
The Ubiquitous Chip in Ashton Lane, which is a highlight for culinary experts is only one of the countless tasty restaurants you will find in the area. Oranmor is the place to go if you want to nip at your wine glass inside a converted derelict church while Tennents and Curlers, the oldest pub, is a traditional favorite. This part of town is a popular visit for students, West End first timers, and infirmary and university staff. What is a must see in Ashton Lane is the historical and refurbished Grosvenor cinema featuring contemporary surroundings. Comfortable leather couches and couple sofas will provide you with a very comfortable film viewing. Afterward you can pop up to the Loft Bar and Restaurant for a delicious dinner. If you'd rather, The Lane Cafe/Bar on the ground floor will also see to your every need.
In the North side of Hillhead there are some of the most attractive and and unique shops found in Glasgow as well as magnificent views and sights. Roots and Fruits and Mellis' the cheesemonger will provide you with many of your experimental ingredients. For a night out you can visit the art deco inspired Viper Nightclub, across from which are some architecturally impressive buildings. Head to student populated Gibson Street with the Kensington Park located nearby. This is particularly popular during the summer months with students relaxing on the lawns. You can indulge in some fantastic dinners may it be Pizzeria Amici or the Lebanese restaurant Shallal. If you're still a child at heart you can view the range of toys across the street at Acabus.
Further along are University buildings that are well worth a visit. The Gillmorehill Centre features a hi-tech cinema and a theatre. The beautiful Gothic architecture is only continued further on University avenue. If you're aching for something cultural, the Hunterian Art Gallery and Museum has an impressive collection of Charles Rennie Mckintosh furniture.
If you're a tourist, the Belgrave Hotel will provide you with wonderful accommodation for a spectacular night in the West End and Hillhead area. The Belhaven Hotel also has a great range of prices. If you'd like something really high class, try the Hotel du Vin Glasgow.
