Girls Aren't Allowed In War - Ch. 2
I'm still unsure whether I am going to continue writing but here is the next chapter...... : )
My phone went off in the middle of the night and I slipped in my clothes, silently. I peeked in my parents room and found them fast asleep. I left a note on the kitchen table:
I love you Mom & Dad........ I'll be back as soon as I can. Please, forgive me.
I grabbed the car keys and left, knowing my dad would be rejected to go to war. Only one male had to go to war from one family, and I was that "man". I drove through a quiet town and wiped off the tear that had escaped. I had my hair pulled back and I rubbed grease on my face to make it look like I had stubbles on my face from shaving a beard. A guy in an orange vest directed me to pull up in a parking lot. I pulled up in the parking lot and turned the car off. I got out of the car and grabbed my stuff. I lifted my chin up and squared my shoulders before heading to the check in area for war.
"Name?" the guy sitting in the chair asked me without looking up.
"Scott Dirkings," I proudly said my father's name and he waved me in.
People were everywhere. Males sitting on the bench, drinking beer, standing around, and walking nervously. I blew out a quick breath as men in uniforms began to split us up in groups. I hear people cheer in my group and saw them high-living each other.
"High-five dude!" A guy next to me held up his hand and I slapped it.
"Why are people cheering?" I asked lowering my voice so it sounded like a guys.
"Cuz' Man! We have the best instructor out of any of these groups. He's a hero," he said excited and then turned to follow the rest of our group.
We all filed into an air-plane and took our seats. A guy in a uniform stepped out and walked up and down the aisle of the plane. I willed my eyes not to stare at him as he passed me. His black hair was chopped in a military buzz, his green eyes harsh, his mouth set in a thin line as he examined everyone, and his muscles not hidden from his uniform. He started taking role to make sure everyone was here, and I fiddled with my fingers knowing my name was coming up soon.
"Dirkings,"he roared above the other men.
"Here!" I shouted doing my best to sound like a male.
"Dill," he shouted again not noticing me at all.
I sighed in relief as he continued until he had called everyone's name. He continued to walk up and down the aisle, and everyone grew silent.
"I am your instructor," he said.
I shifted uncomfortable in my seat, as he eyes slid past me to the guy next to me.
"We are going to get you men in tip top shape," he barked and took a seat in an empty row.
The row directly across from me.
"Great," I muttered under my breath.
He looked over at me and raised a brow. I looked down when I heard him speak ,"Did I hear a comment to getting in shape soldier?"
I shook my head and he continued to speak. "Answer me soldier!" he said louder and I whipped my head up.
"No sir," I said just as loud as him.
"Oh. We have a trouble maker, do we?" he shifted so he was closer to me and I blushed fiercely.
"Tell me Soldier. Do you have a girl waiting for you if you get back?" he asked and I blinked in amazement that he would ask me that.
"No," I looked at him as he made his mouth in an o, as if that explained everything.
"Do you?" I asked curious.
"Don't speak without permission..." He said harshly and looked away from me.
"Well Sir, you asked me the same question," I countered him and he glared at me.
"No- I do not have anyone waiting for me when I get back. Now, I suggest you shut your mouth before I break it," he hissed at me and I went silent.
"Welcome to war," I muttered to the guy next to me and he burst out laughing.
I didn't look back at our instructor but I could feel his eyes on me again. I closed my eyes and fell asleep, waiting to get where we were going.
