There are three things that determine how much your spend on the gift for that special woman in your life:

How long you've been in the relationship
Your age and her age
Your current financial situation

1.How long you've been in the relationship
If you just met her and have had a couple of dates, then the gift should be small and not very expensive. On the other hand, if the relationship has lasted a year or more then the gift should be larger and more expensive.

However; if you are out of college and in and entry level position, you should spend more but a discount store is still fine. If you are in a long term relationship and are more than old enough to vote, you should probably go to a jewelry store and buy her something nice.

3. Your current financial situation
If you are a student with a part-time job, buy something small and inexpensive. It's all you can afford. If you are have a job where you have progressed up the corporate ladder but not very far, buy something better. If you are well on your way to success, pull out all of the stops and make her happy!
