Getting Rid of Fruit Flies Naturally

Here are some of the homemade methods that have been effective to keep fruit flies at bay...
Fruit flies are a big nuisance, wherever they go. However, the most commonly infested area in the house is the kitchen. Many homeowners make use of insecticides and pesticides to eliminate flies infestation. However, pesticide sprays can pollute the environment and leave an unbearable odor (smell) in the house. Also, inhalation of these pesticides can lead to severe health problems. Considering the grave consequences of pesticide treatment, a safer option is to use natural methods to get rid of fruit flies. Unfortunately, many people think that getting rid of fruit flies in the home, without the use of insecticides and pesticides, is not possible. However, the following natural ways to get rid of fruit flies are very effective and safe.

Fruit Vinegar: Take a glass and add some amount of fruit vinegar, such as wine vinegar or cider vinegar, into it. Now, use a plastic wrap to cover the glass. Fasten or fix the plastic wrap to the glass firmly using a rubber band. Now, make holes in the plastic wrap, by penetrating it with a sharp object. Once it is done, you will observe that the smell of vinegar brings the flies near the glass. In fact, they try to access the fruit vinegar by going through the holes. Although the fruit flies can successfully get inside the glass, they find it extremely difficult to come out, and eventually die. This is the easiest way of getting rid of fruit flies in the house. Lay these traps at different places in the house to eliminate this menace from the house.

Liquid Soap Solution: A solution made from sugar and vinegar is also found to be useful to keep fruit flies at bay. Firstly, you need to pour lukewarm water into a glass bowl. Now, take 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and mix it with the water. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the vinegar solution. Now, in order to trap the flies in the bowl, 4-5 drops of liquid dish soap need to be added into the vinegar solution. You can keep the bowl where fruit flies reside in large number. The bowl containing the solution does a great job of attracting the flies. Now, when these black bugs make an attempt to have a sip of the solution, they slip due to the formation of dish soap film on the surface and get trapped. This method can also be used to prevent flies from sitting on fresh fruits.

Keep the House Clean: To minimize infestation of fruit flies, keeping the house spotlessly clean is of utmost priority. Unclean areas, where the food is kept open, become the breeding areas of fruit flies. These black bugs are naturally attracted towards stagnant or stored water. Fruit flies can also be noticed in large number in garbage storage areas that contain rotten fruits and vegetables. In order to reduce the menace of these pests, you need to prevent stagnation and accumulation of garbage, and ensure that it is disposed on a daily basis. A better option would be to put garbage cans outside the main door of the house.

The above methods of getting rid of fruit flies naturally need to be used for a period of 2 weeks so that maximum number of flies are eliminated from your home. These aforementioned home remedies for fruit flies are very easy to implement, making getting rid of fruit flies in your house an easy task.
