Dark circles, under the eyes of a person, give an impression that the person is unhealthy. These dark circles make the person look much older than he or she actually is. There are a number of reasons which can lead to dark circles, such as hereditary factors, lack of nutrition in diet, lack of sleep, stress, allergy, natural aging process and a medical condition, known as, periorbital hyperpigmentation, in which there is excessive production of melanin under the eyes. You have to first identify what exactly is causing them and then follow the remedies accordingly. Given below are some remedial measures that can prove beneficial.

Ways to Get Rid of Dark Circles

Take Adequate Sleep
Lack of sleep can cause dark circles, so make it a point to sleep for at least 7-8 hours in the night everyday. Taking a nap of around twenty minutes in the afternoon is quite helpful too, as it helps in making you relaxed and stress-free.

Healthy Diet
Include lots of fruits and vegetables in your diet. A balanced diet is one in which all the required nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fats are included, so plan your daily diet accordingly. Also, avoid such foods which lead to water retention as these foods slow down the blood circulation of the body, leading to dark circles and other skin problems.

Tea Bags
If you have dark circles and puffiness under eyes, the best treatment would be to use tea bags. Simply, take two tea bags and keep them in the refrigerator for about an hour. After that lie down comfortably, close your eyes and keep the tea-bags on them. Preferably use herbal tea bags as they are much more effective than the regular ones.

Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is a bleaching agent provided to us by nature, so applying it under the eyes will help reduce dark circles naturally. For applying lemon juice to reduce dark circles, take two teaspoons each of lemon juice and tomato juice and mix them together. Take a cotton ball and apply this mixture, softly and evenly, under the eyes. Leave it on for fifteen minutes and then wash off.

Massage
Massaging the under eye skin area with natural oils, such as almond oil or olive oil, will not only help in reducing dark circles but also the bags under eyes. Take almond oil and with your fingertips, massage it smoothly in the under eye skin area. Massage everyday for about five minutes, before you go to bed and you will see the under eye dark circles reducing and the sagging skin feeling a bit tightened.

Cucumber
One of the most effective home remedies for dark circles, is to apply cucumber juice on the skin around the eyes. Alternately, you can cut round slices of cucumber and keep them on your eyes for about fifteen minutes, everyday.

Makeup
Though make up will not solve your problem permanently, but application of an eye concealer and a bit of skin foundation under the eyes, can reduce the dark circles temporarily.

Besides the methods mentioned above, drinking lots of fluids, wearing a sunscreen while going out in the sun, exercising regularly and staying happy in general, will give you a radiant, glowing complexion, minus the dark circles.
