GERD Natural Remedies
What are the natural remedies for GERD? Here's a couple of homemade remedies that you can use to counter it.

Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
GERD or Acid reflux disease is a condition characterized by the repeated entrance of acid from the stomach into the esophagus. When a person consumes food, it passes down the food pipe into the stomach. Between the esophagus and the stomach, there is a muscle which works as a valve, known as the sphincter. The sphincter's job is to basically let the food into the stomach and not let food which is already inside the stomach come out. But often, due to a problem in the sphincter, or basic stomach overload, or pressure on the stomach, the sphincter gives way and the acidic mix of food and digestive juices enters the esophagus. The sensation is one we are all familiar with a burning sensation just above the stomach.
While a normal acid reflux is faced by all, some people are more prone to it. Pregnant women and people who are obese normally face more than average cases of acid reflux as there is a heavy pressure on their stomach. Some people have a sphincter which doesn't work as well as a normal sphincter should. Hence, the chances of GERD is higher in these people.
GERD Natural Solutions
Diet
There are some foods which trigger GERD faster than others, hence you would do better to avoid these. Onions, garlic, spicy foods, fatty foods, coffee, alcohol and soft drinks are some of the main culprits. So if you repeatedly have the problem, perhaps it is better if you reduce the intake of such foods. Some people claim that consuming a high fiber diet also helps beat GERD. Another natural remedy is to drink more water. By drinking water, the acids in the stomach get diluted and hence you do not feel the reflux as strongly. Also, avoid eating too fast. Take your time and chew properly.
After-Eating
Ayurveda promotes the importance of a small walk post-eating. Do not go to bed right away after dinner, as the chances of reflux will be higher. Wait for a couple of hours before retiring to bed. Better yet, take a small walk around the block after eating as it will help settle the food and speed up digestion. You should also avoid smoking after dinner and just before sleeping, as smoking may trigger an acid reflux.
Herbal Cures
There is also a host of herbal medication for GERD natural treatment. To treat it, you could consume a mix of apple cider vinegar and water while having your dinner. Ginger root is also proven to be fairly good against GERD and one can have a ginger root capsule after dinner. Fennel seeds which contain the chemical Anethole are also said to be good to fight GERD. So after a meal you could chew on some fennel seeds slowly, which will help release the chemical and reduce the problem. Aloe Vera juice is also said to be a good bet against it.
GERD is a fairly common problem and the best way to fight it is to consume food in moderation. By consuming only what you need to fuel your body, you will not have to face the problem of acid reflux.
