George Michael Arrested After Auto Accident
George Michael is back in the news, having collided with a taxi driver over the weekend, being arrested and held for questioning.
He’s not been in the news much since forming the more popular half of the 1980s-era band "Wham" and a solo career that followed but then faded shortly thereafter. Now, however, George Michael is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Michael was arrested Saturday and questioned after his Land Rover collided with a taxi in Britain. Michael insisted, however, that he was "stone cold sober" at the time of the unfortunate accident. Police confirmed the arrest, noting in a statement that "Officers were called at 1:00 A.M. on August 14 to a collision on the southbound carriageway of the A34, approximately two miles north of the M4."
George Michael, who is 46 years old, was held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He was released about five hours after originally being brought in, however, and no charges were issued. Michael issued a statement quickly after being released. "Neither of us was charged because we were both stone cold sober. We both think the other is to blame so this is just and insurance fight." Michael referred in the statement to the driver of the taxi with whom he collided, and added, "I don’t want my fans or my family worried by what they are reading all over again."
In 2006, Michael infamously was found behind the wheel of his car, slumped over and obviously under the influence of drugs. As for the taxi driver involved in the accident, he noted that Michael "seemed completely disoriented, like he had no idea what was going on. He looked totally dazed and even tried to climb into the cab of my lorry."
