Garlic Mashed Potatoes
There is something about the combination of mashed potatoes and garlic that is just right. Garlic, with its deliciously pungent flavor and the blandness of mashed potato along with its smooth texture makes a garlic mashed potato dish delicious and satiating. And then, there are so many variations too that you can try out, to add piquancy and difference to the basic garlic mashed potatoes, such as adding cheese, rinds of bacon, herbs like chives or parsley, onions and so on. I like using the big, round lightly colored potatoes, which have a unique flavor in them when making a garlic mashed potato dish. However, just about any type of potato will do, really, such as round red potatoes, Yukon Gold potatoes, or russet potatoes. So, here are a few simply yummy recipes of garlic mashed potatoes for you to try out:

Plain Garlic Mashed Potatoes

1½ lb Yukon Gold potato
1 garlic head, whole with skin
1 tsp olive oil
2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp butter, unsalted
salt
pepper

Begin by preheating the oven to 450 degrees F. Slice off the head of the garlic, thus exposing the cloves, and rub the whole garlic with the olive oil and pepper and salt for seasoning. Then wrap the garlic in foil and roast until tender.

Heat some water in a saucepan, and in the meantime, peel the potato and cut into 1-inch size pieces, and put the pieces into the water, and let it come to a boil. Then reducing the heat, simmer, until the potatoes become tender. Then, drain off all the water, and add the butter, milk, and 2-3 of the roasted cloves of garlic, after peeling them. Use a potato masher to mash to a smooth consistency, and add some pepper and salt for seasoning.

Creamy Mashed Potatoes with Garlic Salt

10 potatoes
1 tsp garlic salt
½ package cream cheese
½ stick of butter

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Peel, chop, and cook the potatoes in boiling water. After it is done, drain the water out thoroughly, and mash it up. Add in the cream cheese, butter, and garlic salt, blending well. Put this into a baking dish and bake for about 45 minutes.

Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potatoes

3 lbs potatoes, Yukon Gold
1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
3-4 tbsp milk
5 cloves of garlic
1 egg
some olive oil
salt
pepper

Rub olive oil on the garlic and bake for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees F. Peel the potatoes, cut them into halves, and boil for about 25 minutes, or until tender, then drain out the water thoroughly. Then adding the milk, mash it thoroughly. Next, squeeze the garlic out from their skin, and add to the mash, as well as the cheese and egg, and blend thoroughly, and then add the pepper and salt. Serve immediately.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Bacon

5-6 potatoes, large sized
1/2 jar of bacon bits
some garlic powder
milk
2-4 tbsp butter
salt
pepper

Peel the potatoes and cook in boiling water until tender. Then draining out the water, mash the potatoes, add the butter, garlic salt, and some milk, and blend well. Then, add the bacon, pepper and salt and mix thoroughly.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Mustard Oil

5-6 potatoes, large sized
1 clove of garlic
1 tbsp mustard oil
1 green chili, chopped
a few sprigs coriander leaves
salt

Bring a saucepan of water to boil, and put the potatoes in it with their skin. Cook until the potatoes become soft. Drain out the hot water and fill the saucepan with the boiled potatoes with tap water, to cool them down. Once cool enough, peel the skin off – they come off quite easily. Then mash the potatoes and keep aside. Mash the raw garlic and add this, along with the mustard oil, chopped green chilies, coriander, and salt, and mix well. This is a pungent tasting garlic mashed potato dish.
