Garage Organization Ideas

Put organizing the garage on your 'must-do' list. Make it a fun activity with loved ones.
The garage is a home for spiders. The car is not fitting in. The junk is overflowing. The paint is chipping and the old cycles have layers of rust stuck on them! Sound's familiar to your garage? Clearing up the mess is a herculean task you don't want to touch. So the 'laissez-faire' policy suits you the best. But how long? And what for? Agreed that the garage becomes a dumping ground sometime or the other. And then when you are looking tools and equipment there seem to have disappeared.

Organizing your garage is not a difficult task if you choose. Put 'garage organization' on everyone's to-do list this weekend. Yes, that's right! It could be a fun family activity. Let your kids, in laws or parents and your parents do garage cleaning and organizing as a collective activity. Doing this activity collectively, will also help each one you decide what items need to be thrown out and which ones need to kept.

Bring out boxes and label them as 'important', 'tools and equipment', 'discard and 'store'. Segregate the items in the aforementioned boxes, which will simplify your task further. Once the items are separated, wash the garage with liquid soap or any detergent. This will make the space look cleaner. The cobwebs will get washed away and the paint will look brighter. If you are willing to shell out a few bucks, re-painting the garage is a good idea. Or better still, sell the 'discard' items in a garage sale, plow the money back into painting the garage.

Once cleared and cleaned the garage will automatically look spacious. Stop there! Do not 're clutter' the space with the boxes. Remove the items from it and arrange them in the order of their need. Make shelves to store the things. If you are having trouble deciding which tools need to be kept or thrown answer simple question like, which tool do you use the most? What item is touched rarely? If I need the tool on day-to-day basis then where should I place it? Answering these questions, will be winning half the battle!

Park the cycles at the end of the garage as it will create ample space for the car. This way you won't have to worry about car getting scratched by junk. Make a section for the old newspapers and magazines that you rarely touch. This way the papers won't be all over the place. Make some space for the other items that need to be given away as charity or recycled. With all this organization, your garage will become spic and span.

Organizing brings out the hidden space, which can be utilized better than cluttering it up. The other impact of these organizing the garage is that it saves your time and energy that would otherwise be spent on frivolously finding things. Cleaning up your garage with your family will also helping in bonding with your family members. The other impact of organizing is that it brings a relief to the eye. A huge clean space is anytime a soothing sight to the eye. Put on those cleaning gloves and note it down in your organizer. Leave no room for laziness (as you clear the room) while organizing the garage with your loved ones!
