- Place the garage door on its permanent location.
- Clean away any debris or leftover nails to ready the area.
- Verify the alignment of the door track.
- Make all the needed adjustments by securing tighteners.
- Make sure that the safety shut off features of the garage door are working well and they should be able to pull the door back if something blocks its path.
Tips on Garage Door Opener Repair and Maintenance
Once installed, a garage door does not need frequent maintenance. However, with continuous use and vibration, the garage door may not open and close properly. Most of the times, such problems can be repaired on your own. Some tips on garage door opener maintenance and repair are as follows.
- If you find that the fasteners and brackets of the garage door are loose, tighten them up with the help of a wrench or a socket. Ensure that all the hinges of the garage door are intact.
- Keep a check on the bolts and nuts. In case a few are missing, replace them. This will help in keeping the garage door working well for long.
- You should be able to spin the stem of the roller with the help of your fingers by applying a little force. If the rollers are frozen on the hinge, apply a couple of drops of three-in-one oil. In case the rollers are too worn-out, replace them.
- If you find any bends in the track, correct them using a pair of vice grips.
